Not one had moved an inch since Isabelle's little outburst. With a heavy sigh the queen rose to her feet and waved her hand, dismissing the advisors. Once they had closed the door behind them leaving the king and queen alone, the queen took the seat beside her husband.
"Oh Jasmine. Say something, please. This silence of yours could have the holy monks pleading with you to speak."
"Edward dear. I just can't help feeling that what we're doing isn't the right thing. It is not fair to Isabelle, and as you can plainly see she won't accept it. She has a strong spirit, and she's as stubborn as a mule. You're going to have to do your share of pleading to convince her to go through with this wedding."
"True, she is rather incorrigible. But it would be nearly impossible to back out of the marriage contracts with the King of Callorn without starting a war between our already uneasy kingdoms."
"Nearly, but not quite impossible darling."
"I suppose you are right. Hopefully he will understand. At the least he may allow us to postpone the ceramony a fe years, long enough for Isabelle and Hector to learn more of each other and maybe even form a relationship on their own."
Before another word was said the door opened and a timid little servant walked in, refusing to lift his eyes off the floor to look at their majesties.
"Begging your pardon for the intrusion your royal majesties. But a Prince Hector of Callorn is here seeking an audience with you." The king and queen lock eyes for a moment before signaling to the servant to let him in. Queen Jasmine resumes the chair she occupied when they broke the news to Isabelle while King Edward rises to greet their guest.
Prince Hector walked in, in his richly tailored garments looking kind and generous, but there was something about his eyes that just didn't look right. They never seemed to stay one color - though most just played it off as a trick of the light.
"I apologize for my unannounced visit, but there are a few things still to be arranged your majesties."
"That is quite alright. And there is no need to be so formal, we are soon to be family." Kind Edward gestured for Hector to sit down, and once he had done so Edward also took his seat.
"Yes, of course. That is why I am here. You see, a wedding is a lot of work and we really should get started on the arrangments."
"Well, the thing is Hector, we've told Isabelle and she is not at all pleased. So we have been talking it over, and we feel it may be better if we cancel, or at least postpone, the wedding. It is going to take some time to get Isabelle used to the idea of marriage."
