Dauphin awoke to the smell of earth and agonising pain. She slowly attempted to raise her head to try and get some bearing of where she was.
It is never a reassuring thing to awake surrounded by corpses. But it would be rare to wake on a battlefield to anything else, and at least Dauphin had avoided being found by the enemy as alive by the sheer number of dead around her. Besides the fact that it was hard enough to convince herself that she was alive with the arrow still protruding from her side. Fortunately it only seemed to be a flesh wound, which although deep had not hit anything vital.
Dauphin knew she would have to move soon. If she was not able to get some form of first aid she was likely to collapse from blood loss yet again, besides which she still had no ideas which way the battle had gone. Fortunately she had always been in disguise rather than uniform, and the tired injured girl looked drastically different from the fearless leader of a few hours previously.
