Chapter #4

The Harsh Reality

    by: Keroro04 Author IconMail Icon
"Zzzzz..."

Kimmy did her best in her suit, whether it was her business suit for work at S.H.O.T.G.U.N or her spandex Lone Bullet costume for engaging with the goons and criminals of the Chicago streets. At the moment however, she was not exactly in either suit however. Instead, she was sleeping on the couch in her pajamas, snoring loudly after a long and hard day of doing paperwork. Between stopping crime last night and working during the day, she was exhausted...

*KNOCK* *KNOCK* *KNOCK*

"Hwuzzah?"

"Hey mommy? Someone's at the door..."

Lumbering up from the couch upon hearing her son's voice, Kimmy reached for the cup of Joe she had nearby before taking a sip... and spitting it out after realizing she had slept long enough for it to go cold. "Ugh... I'm gonna have to make another cup..."

Making her way to the door, Kimmy opened it up and expected just some girl scout or solicitor showing up. After all, it wasn't like she was on any radar for doing any heroics just yet, not when she had only been the Lone Bullet for one night. If she were to start expecting a hero, it'd probably at least take a month of doing this cape shit, or at the very least long enough for her own job to start noticing her actions as a Cape.

As such, when she saw Feycatcher, the #1 wealthiest Cape in the entire Chicago area at her front door she immediately took notice and shook off her drowsiness.

"Excuse me, are you Kimmy Accardi? Long blonde hair, killer ass, works at S.H.O.T.G.U.N?"

"Homer, go to your room please." Kimmy said, shaking a bit nervously. "Grown-ups gotta talk."

"Okay!"

As soon as she watched Homer climb upstairs and go into his and Amber's shared room, she sighed in relief as she brought her attention back to Feycatcher. While she would love to tell them about being a Cape, unlike her husband she knew that they were absolutely too young to hold secrets and that if this was going where she thought it was and they found out, they'd just blab her out to all their friends at school.

"Okay but are you Kimmy Accardi?" The redheaded hero woman yelled, her hands on her rounded hips as she hovered over the ground. "Or should I say-"

"Shhh... these houses have ears." Kimmy countered back, shushing Feycatcher down. "If you have something to yell at me, at least do it somewhere private."

___

Travelling to the outskirts of town, Kimmy was once again donning her black and silver spandex as the Lone Bullet as the Feycatcher followed close behind, hovering over the ground with her wings. This far out from Chicago, barely anyone paid attention to what was going on making it a ideal place for criminals to make their move. However, the same could be said for it being a perfect spot for heroes to talk it out, and as multiple criminals witnessed the two pulling up by the local gas station they hid once more into the shadows.

"Is this far enough into the boonies?" Feycatcher asked, disgusted by how disgusting the place was. "Cause I'm not going any worse than this."

"What, are you not a nature-themed cape?" Kimmy teased, as the Bulletcycle came to a sliding stop. "You're literally themed after one of those nature sprites, I'd expect you to have a bit of a better handling of stuff like this."

"Please, that's just a gimmick! I'd rather be caught dead than to mess around in the tall grass, catching insects and all that?" Crossing her arms, Feycatcher spat onto the cracked pavement as she flew closer to the Lone Bullet. "We're not going any further out, okay?"

"...Fine." Kimmy replied, holding back her contempt. "Now, what the hell do you want with me? And for that record, how do you even know who I am?"

"How I know who you are? Well first off, I have close connections to Tailor Maiden, so when I heard she was making clothes for someone without any powers or wealth it was just a matter of looking through who bought the suit. Secondly and more importantly though, you changed in a Wendy's. Do you realize how easy it is to bribe a Wendy's official for security camera information? Especially in this city, of all cities. Hell, only place easier to do so is in Darkport, and that's literally the crime capital of the world!"

Kimmy was absolutely stunned at this reveal. "You mean... oh my god, even ignoring the more important stuff, if you've seen me naked that is a grave breach of private-"

"Oh you want to talk about grave breaches?"

*WHAM!*

From behind, Kimmy was knocked to the floor as Feycatcher's sidekick, the Redcap decloaked from his invisibility and knocked her to the ground with a metal baseball bat. Landing on the ground, Kimmy's fighting instincts kicked in as she swiftly swept her legs only to hit thin air.

"What the hell!?" The Lone Bullet yelled, furious at the betrayal. "We're on the same side! Heroes fighting against criminal activity!"

"Ohohoho, absolutely! But I'm afraid you've broken into my territory."

*WHAM!* *KRACK!*

Another hit landed from the Redcap, hitting her leg as she felt a bone down there snap.

"You see, I didn't become top hero in Chicago by being nice. Lots of people in this city think they can be the next Daredevil, and between them, myself and the Power Lounge the city's pretty cramped. For me to lose the spotlight I deserve from saving all of these people? Perish the thought! No, if I want to keep the spotlight on myself... I must

*WHAM!*

"Eliminate...

*WHAM!* *WHAM!*

"The...

*WHAM!* *WHAM!* *WHAM!*

"Competition!"

*KA-WHAM!*

Everything from there, at least from Kimmy's perspective went black. Looking down on the vigilante she had just broken and left unconscious, Feycatcher personally walked up to her defeated body and kicked her one last time for good measure to make sure she was down. With almost no movement in response, she let out a truly devilish smile as she knew that even if her spirit wasn't broken, her body and dignity were.

"Redcap, drag her body to the nearest doctor. Sign that it was Multiplicity, Popcorn or whoever criminal is out of jail at the moment. And make sure that NONE of this traces back to us. Got it?"

The mute sidekick nodded in approval, before walking away and dragging Kimmy's body from the scene.

___

When Kimmy awoke, she was resting on a hospital bed with her whole body hurting. Trying to move, she quickly stopped when she felt a sharp pain course around her whole body from all the places she had been hit by those bastard "heroes". With this pain came rememberance, followed by absolute fury at those bastards that called themselves "heroes".

"Quei viscidi bastardi! Eravamo entrambi eroi, e lo facevano ancora!? Chi dà loro il diritto di farlo? Lo giuro, la prossima volta che li vedrò, lo farò-"

"Uh... I don't know what language that is but I do know angry, and I get your anger... you did just survive an encounter with the most hated heroes in this city..."

Looking to the side, Kimmy immediately went silent as she saw the doctor Ashley Armstrong treating her. One of the most well known doctors to treat Capes of both sides, she was absolutely one to be respected, and the fact that she was being cared for her was not something she could ignore.

"Oh my god... I was really hurt, wasn't I?"

"More I was the one their "sidekick" found first, but you did come in with multiple bone fractures all over your body. I've done my best to repair them all, but it'll still take about a month before you get back to normal."

"A whole month!? Merda!" Even more furious than she was before, Kimmy tried rising up to her feet but couldn't surpass the pain that was keeping her down. "That bitch-"

"Has doxxed you, after dropping you off here. She's done it to practically every rookie here. Well, more every rookie without any powers that could seriously harm her tech. I'm so sorry for what has happened to you, Ms. Accardi."

"What!? Oh if she's responsible for my family getting hurt I'll-"

"They're fine." Ashley admitted, as she administered a medicine that was meant to calm down the struggling Italian belle. "I called S.H.O.T.G.U.N... they fired you for obvious reasons, but agreed to help in trying to remove the information posted about your life against your will."

"Merda..." Finally losing steam, Kimmy's expression turned dour as she got the bad news. "Why then? Why would she do this?"

"She wants to be the only one operating in Chicago." Holding up a file in her hands, Ashley read it out loud for the vigilante. "She's very competitive, and has been picking fights to try pushing everyone else to other towns. She obviously can't move the Power Lounge though, so her main target's been the powerless."

"Then why hasn't she been punished?"

"...I ask that myself too. Unfortunately, I don't know. But I know for a fact that even if she's considered on the same level as someone like the Owl in terms of competency, she's a bastard at heart."

For a while, the two simply just sat there in silence, as Kimmy came to terms with her reality. This bastard has cost her a job at S.H.O.T.G.U.N, broke her body, and endangered both herself and her family by doxxing her, all to drive her out of town. Kimmy could never leave the city, but she also couldn't leave the Feycatcher unpunished by this. At the very least she was going to heal, but that didn't fix anything.

And things needed fixing.

"You said this was going to heal in a month's time, right?"

"Yes, Ms. Accardi."

"I'm not waiting that long. I want that cagna in jail for her crimes."
