Isaac took a deep breath as he approached the selection area. The shikigami eggs were laid out in front of him, each one slightly different in size, color, and texture. Some glowed faintly, while others seemed to pulse with an inner energy. He scanned the array, trying to sense which one might be the right choice for him.
His eyes were drawn to an egg that seemed almost ordinary at first glance. It was a deep, dark purple with a faint, eerie glow. But as he reached out to touch it, he felt something—an almost imperceptible presence, like a whisper in the back of his mind. It was subtle, but it sent a chill down his spine.
"This one," Isaac said, his voice steady but with a hint of curiosity. "I choose this egg."
Takako Moriyama eyed him with a raised eyebrow. "Interesting choice, dipshit," she remarked, a slight smirk playing on her lips. "Do you even know what you’re dealing with?"
Isaac hesitated for a moment but then shook his head. "No, but it feels... right. For me."
“What words you use, a little piece of trash. I don't know if you're brave or foolish, but you have made a choice.” Takako’s smirk widened as she looked at the egg. "This is not an ordinary shikigami you’re holding, boy. That’s the egg of a Kankandara shikigami."
Isaac frowned. "Kankandara? I’ve heard that name before... but what exactly is it?"
Takako’s expression grew serious. "The Kankandara is a rare and extremely dangerous shikigami. It doesn’t appear every year or get chosen by students often. It’s a spirit with a strong connection to fear and darkness. If you hatch it, you’ll be binding yourself to a powerful and unpredictable force. It’s a creature that thrives on the fears of others, and sometimes... even its master."
Isaac’s heart raced. He could feel the weight of the decision he was making, but something inside him told him this was the right choice. He had worked hard to get into Ootomi High, and he wasn’t about to back down from a challenge, no matter how daunting.
"I understand the risks," Isaac said, gripping the egg a little tighter. "But I’m willing to take them."
Takako straightened up and shrugged. “Suit yourself, Hillsong. Just don’t come crying to me if it decides to eat you alive,” she said with a hint of approval in her eyes. "Very well, but don’t say I didn’t warn you. Take good care of it, and maybe it won’t tear you apart."
With that, Takako turned and walked away, leaving Isaac alone with the Kankandara egg. As he held it, the faint whispering sensation in his mind grew stronger, almost as if the shikigami within was reaching out to him, testing his resolve.
