“Umm, what?”
That was all Bennett could say. After being confronted by the Raiden Shogun’s puppet within the essence of her mind, Bennett was left flabbergasted. He had all sorts of questions, but he wasn’t sure if the puppet would answer them. They had only met just now because the puppet appeared, demanding to know what was happening since the owner of that body wasn’t present anymore and instead someone else was. Bennett, still nervous, scratched the back of his head wanting to know more.
“E-Excuse me, did I hear that correctly? You’re a puppet?”
“Yes I am,” The puppet answered. “I was programmed by Ei to monitor the region of Inazuma while she goes into the Plane of Euthymia from time to time to conjugate.”
Bennett nodded as if he understood but really just got more confused. He thought to himself, “So… Ei, the Raiden Shogun has an autopilot mode inside of her? That’s kinda cool…”
As the boy continued, he asked her another question. “Wait so this Plane of Euthymia is just her mind? Is that why I appear as myself?”
“Correct. In this realm, you are merely a spirit and a spirit reveals your true identity no matter whose body you are currently in.”
“Ohhh,” He said, now intrigued. “So while I’m in here I’m me, and on the outside I’m still in Ei’s body?”
“Yes, however…” Her tone abruptly changed, sounding more intimidating. “In here your presence is extremely vulnerable. If you try to do anything bad I can easily bring you in here and exterminate you right here and now.”
His eyes widened from hearing that. The fact that he can be easily killed and it was because of his actions made him aggressively sweat. He made a note in his head to be careful of every move he takes from here on out, not to upset the puppet. Although now that Bennett had learned who she was, essentially being almost like an assistant to Ei, he decided to refer to her as the Shogun.
“Now then,” the Shogun continued. “Can you explain the situation going on out there currently?”
Bennett proceeded to explain the situation to the Shogun thoroughly. From finding the mysterious domain, to coming across the secret room where the magic circle that started this whole mess set, even to where Bennett accidentally broke it, activating it, he made sure to leave no detail behind. The Shogun nodded, taking in all the information.
“I see, a spell like that must have been created by a mage with high understanding knowledge of ancient magics. Spells like those have been long forgotten, so it is rare that someone has been able to recreate it.”
“So what should we do? It would essentially be impossible to find that mage at this point and even so I need to find my friend first. I’m worried for her safety!”
“I understand your concern for your friend, but this situation is far bigger than just for one person. You are right about one thing, finding that mage would be nearly impossible to find, which is why there is also a possibility that the circle was created a long time ago.”
“What?? Then what do you suggest we do??” He asked anxiously, trying not to waste any time.
“There is one way we can handle this situation. We must find someone with vast knowledge of these forgotten spells and make our way to Mondstadt in an attempt to reverse this.”
Bennett repeated what she said in his mind, thinking if that was really the best option. While yes, this situation was bigger than just for one person, there was no way he could just not worry about Fischl. Not to mention it was his fault this happened. However, this is Fischl he was talking about. The same person who would accompany him on tons of quests, help him out when he was in danger and make him feel better about his bad luck. They always made a good team after all.
So whether he liked it or not, he decided to go through with the Shogun’s plan. Wherever Fischl was, he knew that she could handle herself no matter who’s body she was in.
Bennett looked up at her and stated, “Ok, you’re right. We need to prioritize getting any information out of this spell, but do you know anyone that knows about ancient spells?”
While Bennett knew that Lisa or Mona had knowledge about magic, once again it was a situation where they could be anywhere as anyone in the world.
The Shogun spoke, “I believe Yae Miko will be our best choice to go to.”
“Who?”
“Yae Miko, she is the Guuji of the Grand Narukami Shrine. She is a dear friend to Ei and has been around for over hundreds of years. She holds vast and unimaginable intelligence that perhaps even she knows about this spell.”
“The Grand Narukami Shrine? Where exactly is this place?”
“The shrine is located at the peak of Mt. Yougou. If I recall correctly, Ei’s servant Kujou Sara was asked to go there as well before the swap had happened. There is a likely chance we will run into her.”
As Bennett thought about it, he couldn’t help but ask, “Hang on, while this plan does sound promising, both Yae Miko and Kujou Sara would more than likely be affected by the swap too. If we go there, then there’s no telling that it would actually be them and not some poor soul caught up in this mess.”
“While that may be, the Grand Narukami Shrine also holds ancient text from within, whether or not they have both been affected, we can still obtain the information that we are looking for.”
Still unsure about it, he knew that it was best to listen to the Shogun. After all, Bennett was in unknown territory. He has no way around Inazuma so if the Shogun wasn’t there to begin with, Bennett would be worrying a lot more. He nonetheless agreed to her plan.
“Alright, I think we should go with that plan then.”
The Shogun’s tone changed slightly since Bennett was complying with her peacefully, “Good. We must get a move on then, this situation is unpredictable and anything can happen. I will send you back out there so you can set off. Remember, if you try to do anything to this body you will be struck down immediately, do I make myself clear?”
“Y-Yeah… You don’t have to worry about anything.” He said as he looked off to the side not knowing if his bad luck will continue to get him. For the best, he hoped that nothing bad would happen.
With a swift motion as the Shogun reached out her arm, Bennett began to feel himself being pulled back as he was returning to the living world. Just like before, within a blink of an eye he was back. He felt the sensations from Ei’s body once again and looked down, confirming that he was indeed back in her body. He quickly looked back up not to seem suspicious to the Shogun.
“Ok I’m back in town. Now to go to the shrine, but where exactly is that?
“Attention young one, can you hear me?”
Bennett heard the Shogun again and was startled.
“Huh? Uh yes actually, loud and clear.”
“Good, to make it convenient to communicate, I will be speaking with you through her mind. That way we can communicate effectively with everything you see and hear, I will as well.”
“Woah, that's pretty cool! I was actually going to ask about directions, but I really didn’t know how to call you so this will definitely help.”
“I’m glad this method will be useful. I will give you directions to the shrine, but first we must deal with my citizens first. I obviously can’t abandon them in their state of panic.”
“You’re right, “ Bennet remarked. “Though what can we do that won’t cause any suspicious or worse more panic?”
There were various ways to go through with this. Although the primary goal is to reach the Narukami Shrine, it would also be good to help out the people of Inazuma. Though it really isn’t necessary, Bennett could convince the Shogun that helping them wouldn’t solve the main issue at hand and they can set off right away.
What should Bennett and the Shogun do?
