Mom Remote - Josh tells her

    by: Morphology Author IconMail Icon
Looking at the remote in her hands, Josh let out a long, drawn out sigh. "We found it when we were going to the coffee shop after mid terms." He told her while looking down with embarrassment. "There was a small sheet of paper in the box with the remote, telling us what it can do. Jenn took it out and fired it at me causing us to swap our heights." He continued while holding his arms out in an effort to show her the outcome. "After that, I dropped her off and she wanted to keep my height for a couple days."

While her son was explaining what had happened, Kim looked down at the remote in her hands. On the exterior, she traced the lines that seemed to loop around the remote, as if imitating the various strata of a piece of sandstone. Of course, unknown to her, this was the result of the 3D printer used to build the remote's outer casing. The buttons on the remote looked to be pieces of paper with hand written text protected behind a piece of plastic holding them into place. "But you've always been that height. When you were growing up, you always seemed to lag behind all the other kids, much like your sister, Courtney." She told him while continuing to look at the remote in her hands causing Josh to flinch whenever it was facing towards him.

Not wanting to get caught up in another swap, Josh let out a groan. "Let me see it and I will show you what I mean." He held out his hand for the device, Kim, knowing that she could trust him, gave him the device. She knew where most of his hiding spots were since she'd grown up in the same house growing up. Holding the device up to his head, Josh thought of what he wanted to copy and then aimed the device towards his Mom.

Covering her eyes, Kim did her best to protect them from the bright light, but she was still seeing spots. "Did I forget to close the blinds again? I swear, if Darren is testing out his halogen lights again, I'm going to give his wife an earful." She declared while rubbing her eyes, but hear her son laughing. "What are you laughing at?" She asked turning towards him.

Setting the remote onto the counter, Josh gave her a simple instruction. "It's nothing important, just think back about an hour ago when we found the remote." She gave him an odd look, but did as he instructed. Thinking back an hour ago when she was just getting home for the day, but there was an odd jump and she was looking through her son's eyes. Seeing Jenn looking at the remote, testing it out on him, and putting it back into the box. "Well?" He asked looking at her with a concerned look.

Glancing at the remote on the counter and back at her son, Kim looked like she was about to lose her mind. "I know what you talking about earlier when you said that Jenn swapped out your height. It's just so weird." She told him while bringing her hand up to his cheek. "I've always remembered you being so much smaller than everyone else, I never thought that it was because of this thing." She told him reaching out for the device. Taking much more care than she was earlier, she started to think of the possibilities that she could use this for but was soon cut off when she heard her phone going off. "Who is that now?" She growled while looking at her phone.

Sensing that this was a bad time to get the remote back, Josh decided to lean against the wall instead. "Whats going on?" He asked, concerned about his Mom's health.

Letting out a long drawn out sigh, Kim looked up from her phone before tossing it into her purse on the counter. "Courtney needs me to come pick her up from Megan's house and I've already got comfortable for the night." She gestured down at her outfit of sweatpants, thick aloe-infused socks, and a beat up sweatshirt from her university, which has certainly seen better days.

"Do you want me to go and get her?" He asked, trying to help her out. "Since I'm already dressed and you don't have to worry about getting dressed." Josh gestured down at his own garb. "I know how much you don't like having to get dressed after you've already gotten comfortable for the night."

Thinking about it for a moment, Kim started to shake her head. "I wish I could, but Megan's mom, Mary, wanted to talk to me about something to do with Courtney and Megan's upcoming trip to the city and I really don't want to go over there again after all the snow had fallen. The town tends to wait to plow the snow during the first snowfall and I don't trust anyone out there." As she was about to go up to her room, her eyes fell upon the device on the counter. "Unless..." She said to herself while picking up the device. "Do you mind helping me out?" Kim asked with a pleading look in her eyes.

Seeing the device in her hands, Josh knew that she wanted to use it and didn't want to have any part in it. "I don't want to be used again." He protested, but soon his field of vision to be filled with the bright light once more.

"Sorry, Josh." Kim apologized. "I just swapped out our ________ and I will swap us back when Courtney is back."
