Jake woke up dazed in an unfamiliar park, confused about what had happened and where he was. He seemed younger and smaller, but more strangely, he was naked. After realizing he wasn't wearing clothes, he tried to cover himself. He heard voices in the park, as well as the panting, barking, and growling of what he thought were dogs. He assumed people were playing with their dogs in the park, a common sight. But when he looked around, he was horrified by what he saw.
A naked boy on all fours chased a ball while a Pomeranian on two legs watched. The boy grabbed the ball with his mouth and then returned to the dog. The dog tried to grab it from his mouth with her paw, but the boy wouldn't let go and growled at her as she attempted to take it from him.
"Drop it! Drop it!" she commanded, and the boy dropped the ball from his mouth. "Good boy!" she praised as she patted the boy on the head. Jake watched in horror as he observed similar situations around the park. Two dogs were talking while two boys were sniffing each other's bottoms. A puppy was giving a little girl on her back a belly rub. It got even weirder when another girl did her business on the open grass with no regard for decency. When she finished, a Rottweiler pulled out a plastic bag and used it to clean up the girl's excrement. All of this horrified Jake, who had no idea what was going on.
Suddenly, a girl ran up to him and circled around him. Jake eventually realized it was his sister.
"Morgan, what happened?" he tried to say, but his speech came out as a bark. "Huh?" he couldn't speak. A pit bull also came up to them. Jake couldn't believe it, but it looked like Gary. Jake froze in fear as Gary grabbed the leash attached to Morgan's collar.
"Morgan, you know better than to run away from your master," the pit bull said, shocking Jake. "And why, if it isn't little Jakey. What's wrong Jake, confused?" he taunted. "Look around you, dogs are in charge. And you little humans are our good, obedient pets." Jake growled at him in anger. "If you attack me, you'll be put down," he teased, and Jake put his head down in disgust. "I thought about making you my pet, but your sister is just so adorable. Isn't that right, girl?"
He continued to tease Jake as he bent down to pet his sister. Morgan looked happy, which made Jake want to puke. This wasn't the sister he knew. "Well I guess this is goodbye Jake. I hope you enjoy your life as a stray. You know, until you get hit by a car or die of some disease or something. Or maybe animal control catches you before then and puts you down," he laughed. "Let's go Morgan," he said as he tugged on her leash, and they both walked away.
Jake was alone and scared. He had no idea what to do. He looked around as dogs were still playing in the park with their humans. Not wanting to get caught, he ran into the woods and eventually sat under a tree to think. He wanted to cry. His family was gone, and he was doomed to spend the rest of his life in this world.
He fell asleep with sadness, hoping the terrible nightmare would go away. But he awoke to the sound of birds singing. He was still naked in the woods, scared and lonely. He just wanted his life back. He looked around and judged that it must have been early morning because the sun was still rising. He was cold and hungry. The last thing he wanted to do in this world was to be a stupid pet. He'd rather live life like a stray. But he also had to be careful not to get caught by animal control. If this world was similar to his old one, strays would be caught and likely put to sleep. His stomach growled as he sat and thought about what to do. He had no idea where he could get food. He saw a squirrel running nearby. Jokingly, he thought he would have to eat it to survive. But then he realized that might be the harsh reality of his new life.
He lay down and thought before he decided to explore. He walked out of the woods into the park. He walked along the trees towards the street. He looked down at the seemingly quiet neighborhood. He saw a labrador jogging down the sidewalk, and another dog getting into a car at one of the houses. Other than that, it was quiet. It was still a strange sight to see dogs acting like people. His stomach growled as he got hungrier. He had to eat something. He noticed some food on the ground by the nearby garbage can. Unfortunately, he would have to resort to eating garbage. It was either that or death. But he had to be careful not to get caught. He waited and waited until no one was in sight. Unfortunately, there were a lot of dogs that were out on walks with their humans.
After a while, the coast was clear. He bolted out from the bushes towards the garbage can. There were mostly wrappers and other useless junk. He couldn't find any food on the ground, so he jumped up to look inside the can. indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
