His breathing was heavy and labored, the stench of sweat so thick and oppressive that Newt felt like he was suffocating. He could feel his consciousness slipping away as the group began to make their way back to camp. He had no idea how long they had walked before he heard the faint sound of voices in the distance. Panic welled up within him at the thought of being discovered like this, and Newt tried desperately to push himself out from between the sock and boot with all his remaining strength, but it was no use. He was completely and utterly stuck.
The voices came closer still, and Newt knew that his time was running out fast. In a desperate attempt at escape, he began wiggling about wildly in an attempt to loosen himself from his position - but all it did was cause more pain and discomfort. Desperate, Newt reached a hand out in the darkness, feeling around for something, but all he could feel was the slight moist texture of Riko's boot.
Riko sighed with relief as they finally reached their camp. The thought of finally being able to relax was a welcome one. As Kane and Liam made their way to report their findings to Dr. Stenson, Mark and Riko decided to stay behind for a bit. Without saying anything more, Mark wandered off in his own direction, leaving Riko alone with his thoughts. Riko was tired he wanted to rest a bit, he headed back up the path towards his room, wanting nothing more than laying down. His mind wandered to Newt and what could have happened to him while they were out exploring, and how he could suddenly vanish with no much evidence.
Riko slowly trudged into the room, weary from the day's exploration. He sat down and began to remove his gear and boots, sighing with relief as he felt the lightness of the air clash against him. Just as Riko was about to remove his boot, Newt felt the sudden movement of the foot, causing him to slip a bit further out of his confined space. He felt the sweat dripping down his forehead as he used what little strength he had left to keep himself from getting squished from the motion.
The boot started to tilt, and Newt knew that if it were to be removed entirely he would have no chance of surviving such a pressure. Desperation began to set in as he kept pushing against the tight confines of the boot, feeling each inch with aching exhaustion.
