Dreaming

    by: BeeJay Author IconMail Icon
That night, I dreamed.

In the dream, I was running. I wasn't running to get somewhere; nor was I running to get away from anything. I was just running to run.

I ran through the city. I ran through the woods. I ran on the beach. It didn't matter what the terrain was like; I just booked it.

I wasn't getting tired or winded, either. I felt like I could keep running forever. It felt so good, so pure.

When I woke up, I thought about the dream. I never dreamed about running before, I thought. Where did that come from?

******************************

Mom brought me some clean clothes to wear home, since my clothes from that night were bloodstained. As I got dressed, I noticed that I had to tighten my belt one hole more than I did before.

Matt came with Dad, and we hugged. Even if he got on my nerves sometimes, it felt good to see him again after what happened.

The nurse brought in a wheelchair, and explained that it was so I wouldn't trip and hurt myself on my way out the door. Even though I could walk just fine, I sat down and let her wheel me out.

On the way to the car, I saw two people who seemed to be looking at me. The man appeared to be maybe ten years older than I was, and the woman looked ten years older than that. I had never seen them before; so why were they looking at me? And why did the man look like he regretted something?

Deciding that I was reading way too much into the behavior of strangers, I figured I must be mistaken about them looking at me, and focused on going home.

Before we got going, I noticed something else that was different about them: In an age where personal grooming is a must, they were walking around with unibrows.

******************************

At home, something strange happened: Clawdette acted like she didn't even know me. I reached out to offer her a scratch, and she just hissed at me and ran off.

Ignoring the odd behavior of my cat, I went upstairs to shave; my pits and legs were looking downright European.

With that done, I went back downstairs, to find that my besties were there to see me. I just had to hug them.

Then, Sarah surprised me by kissing me. On the mouth.

"Oh-kay," I said, when she extracted her tongue from my mouth. "I don't know where that came from; but I'm afraid, in my case, I really do just want to be friends."

"I'm sorry," she said. "I don't know what got into me."
