You were afraid that you would run into Emma so you said you didn't decide to risk jumping over the wall since you thought it was a better option to hide yourself in the school corridors on grounds where she unusually went.

The female section it was clear that Emma was anything but female so no way would she go through here although this would be a new problem since you are not supposed to be here so you had to be careful not to be detected so to hide for a while time you chose a classroom that apparently was empty but unfortunately this was a mistake since as soon as you entered you noticed that it was there...
