Ocean's Blessings, Wand Emporium

Melona glanced into the window of the store "Ocean's Blessings." The modest wand shop was part of a famous chain of wand stores, and every major city had at least one. Many spellcasters claimed that getting one's wand was a sacred ordeal, that the bond you forge with your wand was a special thing, and that you should only need one wand for the rest of your life. But those people were all rich and probably just wanted another thing to feel superior about. Melona would know. She had to grow up with people like that.

While Wand-Crafting was indeed a profession that required a high amount of skill and dedication, and custom wands made specifically for their caster were said to make casting complicated spells a breeze, at the end of the day wands were just tools used to help facilitate the casting of a spell. Put the right amount of mana in a wand, wave the wand in the right sequence, say the right words, and a spell happened. Better wands could help with more precise control of mana, or had special enchantments that would make them more durable or easy to find or bind them to their owners, but all of that was just window-dressing, and those who gasped at the mere mention of mass-produced wands were the most annoying people to have to be around.

One of the most iconic things about Ocean's Blessings was that it was staffed entirely by mermaids, who could be seen putting your wand together when you bought it, allowing them to call the wands "hand-crafted." This was true in the sense that they were being crafted by hands, but while premium wands have almost every part entirely made from scratch, Ocean's wands had pre-made parts that could be easily slotted into each other.

Melona approached the store, looking longingly into it's window. What she wouldn't give for a new wand... Her current wand was fine enough, it was the nicest thing she owned, being given to her when she came of age back when her parents still had hope for her to become a powerful witch. But not only was it awkward and kind of small, as it was meant as a simple training wand, but it was also an ugly reminder of the expectations on her and how she had failed them. She wanted nothing more than to chuck the wand and be rid of it, but until she found a replacement she was stuck with it.

Her thoughts were interrupted, however, when she noticed...
