"Class was canceled," said Sneayc. "The shipment of reagents for today's lesson got delayed. Something to do with a storm messing up trade routes." She pointed at the door. "I put a sign in the door."
"Oh." Melona blinked and turned around. Sure enough, there was a piece of paper propped in the window of the classroom door. She turned back to Sneayc. "Sorry, Professor. I'll leave."
"You don't have to!" Sneayc gave Melona a winning smile. Melona wasn't sure if she was capable of smiling any other way. "I'm just killing time. You can stay until your next class."
"Oh! Um--okay." Melona wasn't sure what Sneayc was playing at, but it wasn't often that she got one-on-one time with her professors beyond the usual "I know you're trying but it's just not enough" meetings that inevitably followed the particularly bad days in class. She could stick around for a bit, at least. Melona walked to her desk and sat down.
The silence was deafening. Sneayc was reading a homemaking magazine. Its cover depicted a smiling blonde half-elf who was decidedly not Sneayc. Judging by the expression on the professor's face, the magazine's choice in cover story was a matter of some contention. Melona knew better than to ask if the woman on the magazine was the woman who had replaced Sneayc in the public eye, but the thought did come to her mind. Melona was about to stand up and leave, when she heard a rustling of paper. She looked at Sneayc, who looked right back at her, her head tilted at a quizzical angle.
