You arrive at Kyle’s bedroom safely

The close call with the bottom of your little (if that term remained applicable) brother's socked foot hadn't really driven home your new status, or lack thereof, in the world.

You had observed the tiniest of ants scurry across a surface much, much faster than you managed to sprint along the floorboards of the hallway separating your room from Kyle's. After a span of not more than a few inches, you pulled to a stop, heaving, holding your sides, struggling to breathe.

"Damn, how can I be so winded and have barely covered a few inches?" Your whiny voice seemed to get swallowed by the immense corridor.

A gulf opened between the floorboard beneath your feet and its closest neighbor. Once you regained your strength, you managed to leap the divide between the floorboards, but the effort left you wheezing and with a painful stitch in your left side. "I need to get into better shape," you decided, then and there vowing to take daily walks and perhaps even go to a gym.

"And I can afford it, once the world knows I've invented a shrink ray," you pealed triumphantly only for your words to evaporate in the stillness.

You had to leap a few other spaces between the immense wood floorboards before you, after a long journey, found yourself standing in front of the door to Kyle's room. Although you gazed up in awe and wonder at the shiny doorknob far, far overhead, you didn't really need to turn the knob to gain entry. To your shock, you had lost so much of your size you managed to crawl on all fours quite easily beneath the bottom of the door.

On the other side, you stood on your two legs again as your jaw dropped open from sheer astonishment. Kyle's room looked furnished by mega-structures, including a bed, a desk and chair, and a dresser. What did surprise you was that you saw no sign of Kyle.

"Where can he be?" You felt scared and uncertain. Kyle had taken your shrink-ray, which you needed unless you wanted to spend the rest of your days smaller than a teeny, tiny ant.

That's when you heard...
