Mary sat in front of her vanity, trying to find the perfect balance of makeup. In middle school, she had been shy and never had much need for cosmetics. However, the brunette was determined to remake herself in high school.
“What’cha you doing?” A voice called, causing the freshman to scribble her eye makeup. Mary looked over and saw her little sister Rachel in the doorway. “You look like an art project,” The second grader giggled.
“Rachel!” The high school student scolded.
“Sorry,” Rachel smiled as she ran beside her sister, “Can I play too?”
“I’m not playing, Rachel,” Mary explained as she cleaned her face. “I have to look good today.”
“How come?”
“The cheerleader tryouts are today,” The teenager reminded her sister as she finished her lipstick. “I have to be pretty if I want to get in.”
“You’re always pretty,” Rachel responded.
Mary smiled for half a second, “You just don’t get it, Rachel; you’re too young.”
The second grader folded her arms, “Am not!”
“Whatever,” The teenager waved her sister off. “Just go. My ride will be here soon, and I must be ready.”
“Fine,” Rachel huffed. Mary rose from her vanity only to fall on the floor, making her sister laugh, “Serves you right.”
The high schooler picked herself up and discovered one of her slippers had come off when she tried to walk. “That’s weird,” Mary thought to herself, “I just bought these.” The teenager shook her head and went to her closet.
