“I need to ask you to keep watching Mark through the evening. I should be able to pick him up by midnight. Like I said, I owe you big time!!! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!”
The text from Nicole ended. “I can’t believe this,” James thought to himself. This is going to be rough. “How am I going to get Mark some food? Or get him a change?” James continued thinking. James sent a few more texts acquiescing that he was never going to convince Nicole to come pickup Mark immediately.
“Out of formula and nappys, where can I get more?” James text back.
“Can’t talk now, stores?” Nicole text back.
James was frustrated but not surprised by the response. Whatever was going on must be important or Nicole would be all over this as she was typically very comprehensive in her care for Mark. James decided he’d make the walk to the closest store and make an attempt at resolving his problem. James’s campus was a sprawling area but unfortunately had minimal shopping options nearby. Generally a car would be needed to comprehensively run errands as big box retailers were multiple miles away.
After a 25 minute walk James arrived at the local market. The selection of products was very limited and James had to inspect the aisles for formula and nappys closely as the aisles were additionally not organized to common purposes. After several minutes scouring the shelves, James was satisfied he had found viable options for his predicament and proceeded to checkout. James spent money that he didn’t have the flexibility to be spending, assuming he wanted to have food for the rest of the week for himself, so he made sure to get a receipt with the expectation that Nicole would be paying him back.

James proceeded to prepare a bottle of formula and sat down to feed Mark. Mark greedily suckled at the bottle and proceeded to drain the bottle of its contents over the next ten minutes. Mark was content for a brief period but then proceeded to continue rooting and moving his cheeks in the suckling pattern but James knew he couldn’t feed Mark anymore without risking being thrown up on. Instead James changed Mark and put him in his pajamas prepping him for sleep. While there was continued fussing, Mark did calm down and eventually let James put him down to sleep.
James fell asleep and was resting peacefully when he was awakened by Mark’s cries. Another bottle prepped and fed to Mark, when James noticed again the continued post feed rooting and cheek muscles moving. Again the motion was followed by crying that James worried would draw the ire of his floor mates as it was now past midnight. “Nicole should have been here by now,” James was fretting in his mind. James marched back and forth with Mark fussing in his arms. Another diaper changed, but Mark was not calming down. James grabbed his phone frustrated that he couldn’t calm Mark. At this point James was feeling desperate to avoid creating any further problems for himself and Mark continued to be inconsolable.
James typed in to his phone’s browser, “Calm a fussy baby?” And hit enter. The results suggested a top solution was …
