“Well, I think you and Mike should go on a date,” Helen said, taking another drag off of her cigarette. Samantha rolled her eyes and sighed, not looking up from her phone, as Helen exhaled another plume of smoke over Mike.
“What if you come have dinner at our house?” Helen asked. “We have a very nice apartment overlooking this very park,” she said, again dragging hard on her cigarette.
“I’d… I’d like that,” Mike stammered, excited to see the home of a big. His fascination with the big world was paying off as far as he was concerned. Helen exhaled her smoke on him again,
“You like that don’t you?” She asked.
“Yes,” Mike replied sheepishly.
“Mom,” Samantha said, taking a final drag off of her own cigarette and flipping the butt onto the walking path, “we don’t live in a tiny friendly building. He’ll never be able to get there.”
“She’s probably right,” Mike said. Samantha looked at him with a certain amount of pity, no doubt sending the disappointment in his voice.
“I guess… I guess we could take you with us,” she said. Mike smiled, his face beaming with excitement. Helen brought the tiny man down a little and he saw her off hand opening her pack of Virginia Slims.
“You’ll be safe in here,” she cooed, putting the tiny man in the cigarette box and shutting it.
