Just as Bruce attempted to take flight and get as far away from that ship as possible, a metallic tendril coiled around her leg and yanked her back in.
"As an added precaution to ensure that you will truly carry on my daughter's life, this pod will alter your mind."
"No!"
Bruce fought but her strength hadn't fully kicked in yet. The tendril dragged her as several more gaffled up her limbs. A device eerily similar to a VR headset was placed on her head. Affirmations began playing as Bruce felt his mind begin to be rewritten.
The horrific image of his parents being gunned down right in front of him in an alleyway while he was powerless to stop it was replaced with knowledge that Krypton exploded. Her and Kal were the last of her people. The name "Bruce Wayne" in her mind was replaced with "Kara Zor-El". Kate Kane was no longer her cousin. Clark Kent was. The darkness she used to frighten criminals was swapped out for a much more optimistic view of justice. Suddenly wearing black and gallivanting about in the middle of the night felt less and less preferable.
Why not wear bright colors and save people with a smile?
Kara tried to use her years of training to fight off the mental rewrite but she was no match for such advanced alien technology plugged right into her brain. She couldn't fight it. Besides, her training was slowly being replaced with knowledge of her people and culture anyway. The pod started to put thoughts in her head about how this was a positive change. A bleak, violent life left behind. No more Joker, no more dead sidekicks, no more being powerless. She could save everyone with her new powers. She would be a goddess among mortals and all she had to do was give up her identity.
Slowly, she stopped fighting. A smile spread across her lips as she saw images of her family. Of Kal being the hero he was always meant to be here on Earth. She grew excited for her reunion with her long lost cousin. She forgot all about that boring old life where she was a man with abandonment issues. She looked forward to being a bubbly blonde and joining her cousin as one of Earth's strongest superheroines.
The pod finished the mental reconfiguration and released Kara.
Supergirl was curious of the new world she found herself on. She flew off to go find her cousin.
Years passed and no one ever found out what really led to Batman's disappearance. No body was ever found so Dick and his other sidekicks believe he is actually alive somewhere. Perhaps he chose to quit being Batman and left to go hide somewhere he could live in peace? Something just didn't quite add up though. The fact that Bruce Wayne also went missing was a definite red flag. Why would he ditch his civilian persona as well? These were all questions that would never be answered.
The news all around the globe showed the new heroine dubbed "Supergirl" in action. She joined the Justice League and worked closely with her only cousin. No one ever found out the truth. That Kara was actually Bruce after he underwent some horrific forced body morphing process. Had he known kryptonians were capable of such a thing he would have ended Clark long ago. Perhaps deep in Kara's subconscious mind there lay dormant a shred of Bruce Wayne left desperately fighting for survival but it is far from causing the blonde any concern.
