This choice: Inland Sea -Mermaids or Fish-based Beast man Tribes • Go Back...Chapter #2Inland Sea -The Watering Hole? by: Shadow18 In the West, there appears to be a glint of light on something shiny. You step carefully through the forest, trying to avoid damaging all the trees as you head in that direction. You do feel the crunch of tree-trunks and the squishing of small things that are not as visible being crushed in your footsteps. You are sort of feeling sorry for cutting their lives short but what are you supposed to do right now? You keep moving forward as quickly as possible to get out of the forest.
After about 5 minutes, you are finally free of the tree line, and leave the knee-high forest behind your back. You look over yourself, and you don't look any worse for wear from the trees rubbing against your lower legs. In fact, they look as good as you started. You are in a field for the moment, but you see what was glittering before at you--an inland sea!
At least that is what you think it is--to you, it looks like just a really big pond. But you see what appears to be a sandy coastline to the eastern edge of the shores, and that is closest to you and the forest you just left. It seems like there is a massive plains area, what would take maybe a normal creature to travel about a day between forest and shoreline. With your massive size, that might be about an hour-long walk. You start to cover the distance, looking at the sea. You want to make a straight beeline for the water, as it looks so refreshing. You don't even care for the noises that seem to be coming from around your feet as you crush any other travelers and caravans in your haste to get to the relaxing spot!
The sea looks to have a sandy beach side where you can walk right into the water super easy, and then there appear to be high rocky cliffs on the northern side--these seem to have whirlpools, possibly from some sharp rocks, or other underwater terrain to mess up the currents. In the south you see what waterways are taking the sea water into rivers that trickle down into the countryside for farming irrigation, and to the southern cities that look to be further away. The nicest feature looks to be a waterfall-- a massive waterfall coming from even further west and racing down from mountains that rise to the 2nd highest point on the landscape so far. The waterfall crashes down into the inland sea and seems to even flow through what looks like a city built into the side of the mountain walls and overlooking the seaside. As you scope your eyes, you even see a part of the city runs through the cliff, right to sea-level to make a port-town area for ships to harbor. The harbor looks open to all sorts of shipping activity.
There also seem to be a lot of traffic on the water--some super small boats-maybe fishing boats or the like for local residents of the waterways. There are bigger sailing ships as well, looking to carry cargo in all directions on the water. The biggest ship appears to be a galleon--with little portholes and massive sails attached to very tall masts--at least for the ship's size. You feel you could use the thing as a bath-toy or even sink the whole ship with a firm action of your hand or foot.
You finally arrive on the shores of the inland sea. Out of curiosity, you ought to test the water first to see how it feels. You raise your foot up-but before you dip it in, you notice the bloody mess on the heels and arches of your foot. "Whoops, close call!" you mutter to yourself. You start to scrape your foot in the sand, allowing the grains to scrape away the grime of your travels. Giving yourself a few moments to rub your foot clean, you look around again. Now that you are on the shoreline, the water does seem like a pond to you, but still see the traffic moving around--either they have not noticed you, they don't care, or they seem to be minding their own business with the shipping still running as scheduled. You look at your heel again, and see it much cleaner than before, and ready to enjoy the water. You dip your foot in.
The sands of the submerged inland sea give way to the pressure of your foot, allowing it to sink just enough to bury the foot a little in the water and muddy sand. It feels like a great place to relax. You almost feel that you want to clean your whole body here, but you are not sure if you want to explore the coasts first, or just go ahead and enjoy the sea-side experience. indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
