"Now, remember, Belle's Bakery is the place to get donuts in the morning if you don't want everyone mad at you. Not just are they the best, but Belle is Chief Wesson's wife." Officer Belloise said as he walked into the station with their new Texan resident and officer, Barrett Campbell.
"Thank ya' Belloise. I'll keep that in mind," Barrett said. "I had no idea that places got this up in arms over food, but with all the places in this town ta eat, I take it choosin' the right place to eat can make or break ya'll's reputation."
"Oh, definitely. Antonio's is always a safe bet but getting in at lunch can be a challenge. All the places in this town love to cater to the police, and Antonio is the king of that. If Chief Wesson or Toshi aren't there, you stand a chance of getting in."
"Toshi? What's a "Toshi"?"
Belloise laughed. "That's Toshi."
Barrett's jaw dropped as a an officer several inches shorter but twice as big came out of the locker room. He whistled. "Now that's a big bull there. But then I think I'm one of the smaller guys here. Besides yourself. And to think I used ta think I was big."
"Give it time and we'll both blow up working here. The town will make sure of it." Belloise said, chuckling a little.
"Well I certainly ain't got a problem with that. I've always eaten big to keep up these muscles," Barrett chuckled as he flexed his bicep, straining the sleeve of his shirt. "Say, there any BBQ joints around here? There's no way a town like this that loves its food couldn't have at least one."
"In that case, Big Luke's Feedlot would be the place you want. His place is right up there alongside Antonio's in catering to police, but he goes ALL OUT with everyone. Lots of truckers and others that eat there end up putting on more weight then they expected."
Barrett's mouth watered. "Sounds like good grub for sure."
"It is. But it's to much for me and my son isn't a big fan of BBQ, so we don't go much."
"I may just have to check out this Feed Lot. Sounds like one heck of a rodeo."
"That's definitely a good way to put it. I think you'd probably get along with the owner, Luke, as well. He fits the "big-bellied cowboy" to a T and once he gets wind of you, I'd be surprised if you didn't become a personal project of his." Belloise checked his watch. "Well, I guess we should get our patrol started. Don't want you getting in trouble on your first day."
"Wouldn't want that," Barrett agreed as they headed over to sign out one of the cruisers.
