Carmelita sighed as she looked at the computer. She looked over at the dust-covered desk on the other side of hers.
"You miss him, don't you?" asked a familiar voice.
Carmelita turned, and saw Chief Inspector Barkley looking at her.
"It's complicated," said Carmelita.
"I'll say," said Barkley. "It's not every day that a top agent walks in with a known thief and talks to him as if he was her partner with a case of amnesia. Wouldn't have allowed it, if not for the fact that I trust you."
"To be honest, during the La Paradox incident, I found out that he had been faking the whole amnesia thing the whole time," said Carmelita. "Still, during it, we got to know each other."
"Mind telling me just went on?" Barkley asked. "All I know is that La Paradox claimed to have proof that he was of a royal bloodline, only for that proof to turn out to have been fake."
"He forgot to let it age," said Carmelita. "If he'd left it back in Persia, it would have appeared to be the real deal."
"What do you mean?" Barkley asked.
"La Paradox got a Time Machine, and was using it to forge a false bloodline," said Carmelita. "He was also trying to wipe out the Cooper family tree. Sly found out from Bentley that something was up, and I followed him. Well, we ended up bouncing through time and space, trying to figure out what was going on, and running into Sly's relations that were in danger. A number of them were quite charming."
"Really?" Berkley asked.
"Well, the one known as Tennessee Kid saved my life, twice," said Carmelita. "Once back in the 1880's, and once in the Present when the gang brought Cooper's ancestors forward in time to retrieve their canes and try to save me and Sly."
"What happened to the Time Machine?" Barkley asked.
"La Paradox's was damaged beyond repair," said Carmelita. "From what I know, Bentley's only works if you have an item from that time period."
"Useful to know," said Barkley. "Well, if you're up for it, I got an assignment for you that might be up your alley."
"What would that be?" Carmelita asked.
