Chapter #11

Another Titanic Ascent

    by: Kilbil Author IconMail Icon
Rumo could tell right away that one of them was about to experience another one of their "big ones". It was something in the air, he figured, the way the hairs on the back of his neck tingled in that distinct way, and his shoulders tensed together like piano wires. It was almost like a sixth sense of sorts that they had both developed over time, as their growth spurts quickly took them far beyond the category of a mere "giant".

The only problem was, he wasn't sure who exactly was going to become even more of a continent-spanning titan. Most likely, it would be Rumo himself, and surprisingly, contrary to what he would have expected... he felt genuinely mixed. Which was basically like saying that penguins don't actually enjoy the cold, or that fire doesn't actually like to burn! For as long as he could remember, he'd been keeping track of every milestone that he surpassed, constantly keeping track of how tall he was compared to the other giants he encountered. When he started dwarfing skyscrapers with his toes, it wasn't long before he was gunning for the top stop - after all, if you were already this big, why not aim high and become the biggest giant in the world?

Eventually, when it was just him and Aadiv, his goal had shifted. He still wanted to be the biggest, but now it about far more than his own personal satisfaction. He wanted to be the rock that Aadiv could fall back on, both metaphorically and literally, after he'd been suffering with the weight on the world beneath him for so long. Restore the natural order and stuff like that. With how far he'd fallen behind, now was the perfect chance to catch up and really, truly give him the support that he needed! On the other hand...

It didn't take a genius to notice that his feet were quite rapidly sinking into what was supposed to be solid rock like it was made of hot glue, requiring him to constantly shuffle around just to stop himself from sinking through to his ankles. Becoming bigger than he was now was undoubtedly going to put a lot of stress on the Earth that Rumo wasn't quite sure it could handle.

If Aadiv was the one growing, or both of them were... well, let's just say that Rumo was really hoping that wasn't the case. He kind of wanted to still have a planet to sleep on, and he wasn't entirely sure how well his skin would fare against the vacuum of space.

Oh, also his ability to breath. That was important too.

Sooner or later, though, Rumo would find out, as:
