Chapter #4

The United Empire

You were scrolling through the list of places until on spot caught your eye: "The United Empire of Great Britain, Ireland, India, Australasia, Bermuda, Quebec, Borealia..."

The obnoxiously long name was impossible to miss and you didnt bother reading the whole thing. But still though, it seemed the British empire never collapsed and instead evolved in this steampunk world. You scanned London to see what the capital city would look like in such a world.

At first, you thought it was night time, but after a few attempts to change the time you were look at it from, you realized that the city's skies are filled with so much smog that it's constantly dark, and the city is constantly lit up by lights. Massive automatons also trek through out the city on long legs tall enough to stand above the buildings but thin enough to fit on the streets. Air ships also populate the skies as well, lighting up the dark cloudy sky. Buckingham Palace is home to Queen Victoria II, who is apparently a hybrid of human and automaton features, effectively making her immortal and young forever. Some of the people are dressed similarly to Americans, with elaborate 19th century dress clothes, however there are many who are in dirtier looking outfits that are similar to stereotypical 19th century workers as well.
