Chapter #4

Hired by aliens as a scientist

    by: Hole Author IconMail Icon
Viora was a 38 year old archivist in the Archivist Order, which was still pretty young by Encirion standards. If she was a human, she would look 18 to 19 years old. She was currently filing electronic documents of the station's anthropology records when she was contacted by the Station Oversight Council.

"Pr Viora Rezelactis. The Oversight Council have an urgent message for you," Viora heard the male voice in her head. She recognized the voice as one of the councillors. She knew they were contacting her via the communication chip in her brain, something very common in the Order.

"Go ahead, councillor," Viora said as she continued her work.

"Recently, we have been contacted by a young empire who requested to employ one of our scientists into their services in return for much needed energy, approximately 10,000 standard cells," the councilor said. Viora was surprised to hear this. Most of the alien races of the galaxy were extremely primitive compared to what the archivist order had access to. So sharing technology with them was generally not worth the effort unless they offered a significant amount of resources in return. But to outsource a scientist? Especially with how limited the station's manpower is. Viora was incredibly perplexed at the notion and stopped working to process the idea. "We, the Oversight Council, have decided that you are the most qualified to be sent to serve the client," the councilor said.

"I have to ask, councillor," Viora said, "is sending me away for some energy cells really the best trade? I am aware of the station's need for energy, but is it really worth sending me away along with any potential contributions I can provide?"

"No need to worry about that, Viora. We can assure you that you are the most expendable of our staff."

Viora couldn't help but be hurt by that statement. However she knew that if the Council said it, then it must be true, as much as she didn't want to believe it. "V-very well," Viora said hiding her offense to the statement. "Where will I be redeployed then?"

"You will be working for..."
