“Sorry, mom,” Heather thought to herself as she watched Rick eye the children, “But, someone needs to learn a lesson.”
Heather crouched behind a bench and made sure no one was looking at Rick before she pointed at him with a smirk. Rick started to shrink down until he was no bigger than a doll.
“What the hell?” Rick demanded.
Rick had little time to think before he was scooped up by a passing baby in a stroller, “Toy!” The baby boy said with a toothless grin as he started shanking Rick violently.
Heather thought about coming to Rick’s rescue, but the boy's mother quickly scolded her child, “Tommy, that toy is filthy and probably belongs to someone, so you toss it into the sandbox.”
“Okay!” Tommy replied as he threw Rick into the soft sand, which cushioned his fall.
“Dolly,” A toddler girl muttered as she picked Rick up.
“Let me see,” A toddler boy demanded as he grabbed Rick’s legs.
“No,” The girl replied as she made to defend her toy, “Mine!”
“Share!” The boy demanded. Before Rick was torn apart, the boy’s leg grazed a plastic bucket, and he smiled, “Castle!”
“Yay!” The girl cheered as she and the boy sat down in the sand like they were best friends. The girl found a shovel and dug a hole where she dropped Rick.
Heather watched the two tots build a tall pile of dirt before putting a stick in as a flag, “Castle!"
“Yay!” The girl cheered before sticking Rick on the pile next to the flag, “Dolly king!”
The two tots were called by their parents and left Rick struggling in the sand. Rick’s troubles were far from over as a little girl of about eight plucked him out of his prison.
“Look, Britt,” The girl told her friend, “I found a doll.”
“Ewww!” Britt remarked as she looked over at Rick, “He’s a boy, gross.”
“We can fix that,” The girl replied with a smirk.
“Ohhh,” Britt smiled, “I like the way you think, Allie.”
“Makeover time!” The girls said together before running to the grass where their backpacks were set up.
“This hair bow would look great,” Allie told her friend.
“Definitely,” Britt agreed before she held up a red dress, “How about this one?”
“No, no,” Allie replied, “Pink!”
“Of course,” Britt smiled.
“He looks good in pink,” Heather remarked to herself as she watched the girls slide the dress over Rick’s clothes.
“Let’s play wedding!” Allie suggested.
“Great idea,” Britt agreed as she pulled a Ken doll out of her backpack.
The girls had started signing the wedding march when Rick was snatched out of Allie’s hand by a boy who was playing with toy guns with a friend.
“A hostage!” The boy remarked as he held Rick out of the girl's reach.
“Give us back our doll!” Allie yelled.
“We have to get the hostage to safety!” The other boy told his friend as the two took off with the girls in hot pursuit.
Heather watched the children run around the playground and saw Rick change hands several times before one of the boys put their captive onto a swing that zipped across the play structure, “Sending the hostage to safety,” The boy remarked, “3…2…1… Blast off!” The boy pushed the swing forward before running off to dodge the girls.
Rick was sent on a wild ride at light speed before being flung into the air and landing safely on some padding meant for toddlers. Heather watched the children for a while and noted that they seemed to have completely forgotten why they were chasing each other before she shrugged and watched Rick undo his makeover.
“I guess you’ve been punished enough,” Heather thought to herself. Heather pointed at Rick, and he grew back to average size. Rick eyed the children for a moment before he took off running.
“Lesson learned,” Heather grinned fiendishly.
What’s Heather going to do next?
