At fourteen years old, Jake is a bit of a loner - he keeps to himself at school, he keeps his head down, stays quiet, and only really interacts with anyone when necessary.
It’s not that he’s bullied - not generally. He gets picked on occasionally for being small, but that’s life when you’re a teenage boy. But he’s just never had an interest in talking to people - not in person, anyway.
And at home it’s a similar story. He and his parents are introverts. His father is an academic who spends most of his time locked in the office, and his mother is a shy and plump little baker, whose love language is making food and sweets for her small family.
And then Jake, like many teenagers, would rather spend his time playing video games online than with his parents. And now he’s decided he’s going to minimise his time with them further - while simultaneously giving him an edge while gaming.
