The Transformation Wave

    by: Hobbitking Author IconMail Icon
"Space, it's a strange and unknown place, unveiling new mysteries everyday," the news anchor smiled as she read from the teleprompter. "I'm joined by Dr Paul to discuss one such mystery. Doctor?"

"Thank you for having me Jess," the live feed stuttered a little as Dr Paul gave his greetings. "About a month ago our deep space instruments detected something strange in our own backyard. Approximately five to seven light-years away. It was a massive burst of energy of an unknown origin."

"Fascinating so why are we only hearing of this now?" Jess asked just doing her job.

"That's a good question. When it comes to abnormalities like this we don't like to rush to conclusions. The data needs to be analyzed and confirmed by multiple sources to ensure it's not a technical glitch."

"Any idea what it was?" Jess was paying a little more attention now.

"Unfortunately no, and we haven't seen any activity since. Which is especially odd as it happened so close."

"Is there any risk to Earth? You said it was close?" Jess asked trying to get more of this story.

"Close is a relative term. At best this event happened five years ago and any exposure Earth had to it was last month. The fact we haven't been able to detect what caused it indicates it was a once off event and we'll be fine." Dr Paul reassured her. "If anything this event shows how much we don't know about the universe."

"Thank you Doctor..." Jess tried not to sound annoyed she was given this non story. "That's all we've got time for..." she began to say as the building's lights began to flicker... "That's odd..." Jess felt a wave of energy wash over her.

"What was that?" Jess asked as she swiveled around. She could just barely see over her desk. "What's going on?" She turned a full 360 degrees while staying in place. She tried to look down at her body but all she could see was the cushion of her stool.

For anyone watching at home, at least those not dealing with their own issues (which all of them were), Jess was mostly a stool. Except for her face on the back cushion and her hair which flowed down the back. They didn't get a chance to see her new form for long as the station cut out.
