Erik thought it over some more, and eventually decided to go with Merry’s plan, rolling his eyes in the process. “I suppose we can try it your way first.” His tone made it clear he wasn’t expecting Merry’s plan to work at all.
Merry however, she gave Erik an impish smirk. “Well then here’s hoping it works!” She then pointed both her index fingers towards him. “Now, just pull these both at the same time.”
Erik looked down and her hands with a confused look. “…Why both?”
“Well obviously because it’ll add more power behind it,” Merry said, assured of herself. “Now let’s give this a try already.”
Slowly, Erik grabbed both of Merry’s fingers as she pressed her rear end up against the door to their cell. After a short deep breath, he decided to get it over with. The moment he pulled on both of Merry’s fingers, he was met with quite the surprise.
BRRRRRRRRRRRAAAAAPPPPPPPPPPPPHHHHTTTT!!!
Merry’s flatulence wasn’t just loud, it was explosive, so much so that it caused Erik to recoil backwards as the iron door to the cell was blasted off its hinges, zipping away from the duo. It then hit the rock wall it flew towards with a loud “CLANG!”
“Wh-WHAT THE—?!” Erik yelped.
Merry let out a heavy sigh of relief. “Goodness, that one was stronger than I expected it to be.” As she stood straight and dusted off the back of her dress, she gave Erik a look of satisfaction. “See? Told you it’d work. I’m actually glad you were here, I couldn’t have done that by myself—“
“H-How did you do that?!” Erik interrupted.
“Do what?”
“THAT!”
“…You pulled both of my fingers and I farted…?”
“NO, that’s not—“ Erik had a sudden epiphany. “…That’s not the point. That was extremely loud. Whoever trapped us here no-doubt heard that.”
Merry’s eyes widened. “Ohhhh… I didn’t think about that…”
Erik slapped his forehead in exasperation and groaned. “Rrrrgh, nevermind that now. We need to go, hopefully get out of here before we get spotted.”
“Right.” Merry then held out her hands towards the newly-blasted-open cell, signaling Erik to go ahead in front of her.
“What are you—?”
“Would you rather be behind me?” Merry half-joked.
“…Fair point,” Erik agreed before rushing ahead past the princess, herself quickly following behind Erik as they made their way through the cave system.
“Oh wait,” Erik said as he spun around. “Grab the torch. We’ll need it.”
Merry nodded and quickly headed back for the torch next to their cell. Erik had a moment to collect his thoughts.
What in the HEL is happening?! How did she DO that? Is she under some kind of spell or curse? Why am I here and who would do this—?
Merry came back, torch in hand, held out towards Erik. The light and heat of the fire snapped him out of his mind’s endless questioning.
“Take it, you need it,” Merry said.
Erik wordlessly swiped the torch from her hand and continued his march through the cave. With any luck, he and the princess would escape before encountering their captor.
As the two hurried down the winding, uneven cave passages, Erik had noticed that the walls were sparsely populated with torches similar to the one he was carrying. They occasionally dotted the cave far, far apart from each other, just barely providing enough light for the immediate surroundings to be visible. Whoever - or whatever - their captor was, they were seemingly making as much use out of as little as possible.
Just then, during the duo’s trek through the cave, Erik and Merry saw—
