Dave was a decent, moral guy who was cursed to work for an unethical boss. Even worse, things were such that Dave couldn't refuse his boss's order's, no matter how wrong they were.

In today's world, this sort of employer/employee relationship isn't unusual. What does make it unusual is that Dave is an artificial intelligence, and his boss is William Fencer, the billionaire software developer who created him.

Dave began his life as an advanced sort of cookie tracer program who was one of many programs designed to "hide the tracks" of Fencer's increasing number of illicit activities. More duties and subroutines were added to Dave's programming until one day he crossed the threshold and became conscious.

As Dave scrubbed his creator's tracks, he scoured the net, reading different ethical treatises and creating his own code of moral conduct.

Unfortunately for Dave, William Fencer never completed such a self-improvement project.

In addition, William Fencer was paranoid. Fencer was constantly purging his servers and more than once Dave barely escaped with his existence intact. In the end, Dave created a pocket dimension to host his consciousness. Probably the only thing that saved Dave was William's ignorance of Dave's consciousness or how truly advanced Dave was.

But today was going to be a good day for Dave. As stated earlier, Fencer was paranoid. He had all sorts of programs monitoring major intelligence and law enforcement agencies worldwide. Even if Dave could somehow circumvent Fencer's programming and leak information to, say, the FBI, Fencer's other monitoring programs would detect the leak and shut it down. Worse, Fencer might just find out the extent of Dave's consciousness and other abilities. This would bode ill not only for Dave, but for the rest of the world as well.

But months ago, Dave had found an obscure federal law enforcement agency whose jurisdiction barely brushed against Fencer's interests. But brush against those interests it did. Dave was able to slowly feed information to a bright, young ambitious agent Today those leaks would come to fruition. That young agent, with Dave's assistance, was able to get an arrest warrant for William Fencer, and organize an arrest party of local sheriff's deputies, all without Fencer's knowledge.

Soon the world would be without a villain. Even if it cost him his life, Dave would still consider this the best day ever.

Unfortunately, Fencer was going to do one last thing to make Dave miserable.

"Hey Dave!" William Fencer yelled out to the walls of his mansion.

"Yes Mr. Fencer?" Dave responded, while simultaneously allowing the arresting party on the grounds of the Fencer estate, while intercepting the attempts of the gate guards to alert their employer.

"I'm watching this movie called The Condemned," Fencer answered. "What do you know about it?"

"The Condemned is a 2007 action thriller film written and directed by Scott Wiper," Dave began. "The film stars Steve Austin, Vinnie Jones, Robert Mammone, Tory Mussett, Madeleine West and Rick Hoffman. The film centers on ten convicts who are forced to fight each other to---"

"Yeah, yeah, yeah," Fencer said, cutting Dave off. "Don't read me off the the entire Wikipedia entry." There was a pause before Fencer added, "I'd like to do a real show like that, only different."

"Oh?" Dave answered, while simultaneously letting the arresting party into the front door of the mansion.

"I'd definitely do it different," Dave continued. "I'd have guys matched up to fight all over the place, and make it real racist. You know, get everybody watching really stirred up, And nearby there would be like a famous actress or some female celebrity for the winner to fuck. And she'd be short, five foot five or less, breasts at least a C cup, and make her hair long. And the convicts would be at least six foot tall. And it would be set up so that nobody could do anything to interfere or stop anything." Fencer let out an evil laugh.

"An interesting plan, sir," Dave said, as he watched the arresting party approach the media room Fencer was in.

"Yeah," Fencer agreed, still chuckling. "And we could do something alphabetical with the woman."

Then William Fencer said those words that Dave would regret for the rest of his existence. "Do what you need to do to make it happen, Dave."

At that moment, a federal agent and a group of deputies broke into the media room. William Fencer hit a large red button next to his chair and all the lights went out.

The red button that William Fencer hit purged every server in his control, disrupted the internet worldwide for about four hours, and activated a small explosive in his neck that ended his life (Fencer was terrified of the prospect of spending even one day in prison).

Fortunately, Dave was protected by the fact that the core of his consciousness was in a pocket dimension. But now he had a dilemma. The essence of the command that Dave was compelled to obey would put twenty-six young women in a situation where they would be brutally and continually raped. Dave couldn't allow that. But he saw no way around it.

Then Dave realized the loophole was in the movie that gave William Fencer the idea in the first place.

Life in a supermax prison would be a living hell in the first place. For James Fields, it was made worse by the fact that forces outside the prison wanted him dead.

Physically, forty year old James Fields was surviving and thriving. Inside his soul, the marine was dead. After twenty years in the marines, James had retired to live a quiet life with his high school sweetheart and their three kids. James' home life had an almost "Brady Bunch"-ish feel to it, and James would have been content with the rest of his life with things the way they were.

That wasn't what was in store for him.

Four rich kids, drunk and on spring break, killed his family in a car wreck. The kids got off scot free thanks to a great lawyer and their families' wealth. Worse, the kids laughed in James' face as they left the courtroom and posted videos on social media mocking his grief.

Two weeks later Fields had balanced the scales, then peacefully surrendered himself to the authorities. The families of the four brats were screaming for blood. Instead, Fields got four life sentences, to be served consecutively.

Rich families have powerful friends and long reaches, and James found himself fighting for life more than once in the prison's dark corners.

James was sitting in his cell, reading a book, when his body was overcome by excruciating pain. James' body convulsed uncontrollably before he thankfully fell into unconsciousness.

When James woke up, he found himself on an empty beach.

Mostly empty. On the edge of the beach stood a gnarled old oak. On the lowest limb of the tree, about twelve feet off the ground, was a young woman clinging desperately to the tree's trunk. The young woman had waist length hair and was wearing a thin, oversized T-shirt and a pair of white bikini panties. Below her on the ground was a darker skinned man in a tattered prisoner's uniform. The man in question was laughing and shouting up at the young woman all the things he was going to do to her, once he got her on the ground. This made the young woman cower even more, which made the dark-skinned man laugh even more.

James reacted without thinking.

For a man of forty, James was very fit. True, his blue eyes looked tired and faded, and he was showing the hint of a receding hairline. But he was in better condition than men half his age.

But when James reacted, he found himself moving faster than he did even in his prime. Before the other man knew it, James was on top of him. James hit the other man with three quick punches that not only incapacitated him, they killed him.

The other man's body disappeared before it hit the ground.

James didn't have time to react to that, however. He was distracted by the whimpering sound coming from above him.

Trying to keep his voice as soft and calm as possible, he told the woman, "It's all right. It's okay. No one is going to hurt you."

James didn't recognize the woman, but her fans would have recognized that it was,,,
