It was during the John's mission across the wall that he met Ygritte. She may have been a wildling, but John couldn't care less. Anyways, their relationship proved to be quite fruitful for John as, through Ygritte, he was able to ingratiate himself to the other, less receptive wildlings. Despite their relationship, John had always been concerned that Ygritte would stay true to her wilding ways, meaning that eventually they would have to face off, or someone would betray their people. For the meantime though, John and Ygritte enjoyed their time together.
Time started to run out though and the time for Mance Rayder's wildling invasion was approaching. Ygritte and a few others like Tormund and John were tasked with climbing the wall in order to launch a distracting attack for the main army to gain access to the gate under the wall. With the plan in motion, John, Ygritte, and the others climbed the wall.
It was a grueling and arduous two day climb, but eventually, with some casualties along the way, the group made it to the top of the wall and then climbed down the other side. John was prepared for all of this, and knew this was part of the plan from the beginning. What John did not know, is what was going to happen next.
One of the climbers was an old Ice-River Clan mage. John paid him no mind during the climb, as he did not seem particularly out of the ordinary, for a wildling that is, but once the climb was completed and they were in the fields of the North, the mage began reciting something, as if he were speaking in tongues. With this, the others joined along and surrounded Ygritte. She danced and twirled, as she undressed herself and craned her head upwards with her eyes closed. John was very confused. He had not been told they would do this wildling ritual and he found himself quite uneasy.
"Ah, relax yerself John Snow.... we are going to have some fun" this did nothing to quell John's uneasy feeling
"Just wait crow, you and your crow friends.... just wait." Tormund says with a grin
With that, moments later...
