The idea of learning magic seemed like an easy decision. Being about to warp reality around you how could you say no to that?
"Why not?" You say in a half-hearted shrug. Hope nodded going along with your response.
"Excellent, though I would appreciate a little more enthusiasm. Magic can be a dangerous thing if you don't know how to use it right. Take my living situation for example, I cast a spell to keep people out and instead it's trapped me within."
"Oh ah... is it too late to change my mind?" You asked.
"Unfortunately yes, both agreed so it's either I teach you or you become familiars," Vivienne gave a playful smile.
"Familiars...?" Hope asked.
"Witches pets, well it's a little more than that, it can be anything from cat to a frog. You really don't get to choose. But once you agree to undertake magic it's either you become a witch of a familiar... I think my sister became my cousin's mouse... anyway it's not important."
"Not important, you just said I could end up becoming a frog or mouse..." You got up to leave before stopping. "Wait if I leave now will I transform?"
"Possibly, I honestly might be misremembering the conditions. It was either anyone who agrees to learn magic and fails or it happened later in the training process. You'll probably be fine, I'm 90... no 50... percent sure of it. Though it could be different for both of you."
"What does that mean?" Hope asked.
"That it means either you'll both become familiars if you try to leave. You'll both be fine. Or one of you will be fine the other will become a familiar... It's magic it's not science. The results can be completely random."
"Is that why you wouldn't tell us what those potions would do?" You ask.
"I mean I have some idea, I'm an esteemed witch after all, you get an idea of what potions might do when yo make them. I just can't recall what I put in them or if I knew what I was doing when I made them."
"Then why did you offer them to us?" Hope almost yelled the question.
"To declutter, you can't just throw away potions... but you'll learn all this when I train you. Unless this counts as training and you're learning it now..." Vivienne kept up her smile which made it really hard to tell what she was up to. "So did you still want to go ahead with that?"
"Um... since we may or may not turn into familiars if we leave, how long do we have to stay?" You ask.
"Two days to a decade. Though you might be able to leave while you train if you intend to come back, or you can't leave at all until it's done."
Hope sighed getting sick of this she turned to you indicating it might be best if you leave before this gets any worse
