Chapter #4

A rare visitor.

by: Scifiwizard Retired Author IconMail Icon
After calling both Eli and Ina with cryptic warnings of what I had read in the cards, a soft knock at the door reached my ears followed by the ringing of a chime bell I had outside. I raised a single eyebrow; curious. It was not often I had visitors; my house was well off the beaten path. I lived at the end of a winding dirt road in the middle of a dense forest at the edge of the protected swamp land. The knock came again and I answered the door to find a small teenage girl nervously standing there. She was no taller than five foot with long honey blond hair, hazel eyes and doll like features.

"Good morning, ma'am." Timidly, she said. "My name is Talya Magicae; Miss Ina Mist told me you could help me."

"Help you with what, child?" Courtly, I asked.

Talya sighed before whispering, "Magic..."

This raised my curiosity more as Ina Mist was very careful whom she allowed to know I dealt with witchcraft. I looked into the frightened girl's eyes and sensed powerful magic, dormant at the moment, but powerful none the less. I wordlessly stepped aside and Talya entered with me closing the door behind her. The girl looked around for a moment then sheepishly asked if she should take off her shoes. i nodded and pointed to where she could place them.

"Would you like some tea?" politely, I asked.

Talya nodded. "Yes, please."

I prepared some tea then offered Talya a seat at my dining table. Upon sitting down, I looked into Talya's eyes; she seemed relaxed in my presence though jumping at every sound from outside. With my curiosity peaked, I shuffled my Tarot card deck with one hand then threw them into the air, allowing them to sort themselves. Surprisingly, Talya did not seem frightened by this which gave me the impression she had seen magic at work before.

"Now then, Talya." Firmly but kindly, I said. "Let us discuss the events that brought you to my door..."
