No one at the restaurant blinked an eye at us as we entered. After all, I am an heiress to a billion dollar fortune. Everyone just assumed Tex was nothing more than another hired body guard escorting my friends and I out to dinner. We took up a seat a few tables down from two of the outsiders and placed in our orders. I was surprised and annoyed that my uncle Damien had joined the two outsiders. He was the mayor of our little city and knew well why everyone preferred we kept our city off everyone's radar.
"Your uncle is being rather bold." Frowning, Greg whispered. "For someone who does not want to be a part of any scandal, he is certainly making one."
"What do you expect from a politician?" Quietly, Sam muttered.
"Hush!" Scolding, I whispered. "I'm trying to listen."
I brushed the hair away from my ear and focused on uncle's table as he talked to the men from out of town. Both were well dressed in expensive suits and I could smell the oil of their sidearms along with their nervous sweat. They were clearly not very comfortable being in our little city...

"The locals obviously do not like outsiders." Quietly, the first man said.
"What did you expect?" Calmly, Damien replied. "We are off the map for a reason."
"We are curious why Sykes is so fixated on your city." Serious, the second man said. "Also, we would like to know why this city is, as you said, off the map."
"It's of no concern to you why we prefer to remain isolated." Darkly, Damien said. "All you should care about is getting Sykes out of your hair and ours."

"It would seem the mayor has sought outside help to deal with Sykes." Frowning, I whispered. "Only I have a bad feeling they have their own agenda here."
"No argument here." Whispering, Tex said.
"I don't like this." Darkly, Sam said. "Anyone who finds an interest in our city always brings trouble for its people."
"Sykes we know but these guys are a mystery." Frowning, Greg said. "We will need to learn more about them before we act."
"I take it we will be watching them for a while." Sighing, Tex whispered.
"I have no doubt everyone will be watching them for a while." More calmly, Greg replied. "What we need is to be ready for when they make their move, whatever it may happen to be."
With at said, we enjoyed our dinner and returned to our separate homes...
