Riley tried to climb through the window quietly. She was relieved when no one was in sight as she slipped off her shoes. However, this feeling was instantly replaced by dread when her dad came out of the other room. "Where have you been young lady?" he asked coldly.
"Uh.. nowhere...I was just...uh... getting some fresh air," Riley lied lamely. Then, under her father's stern stare, she folded. "Okay, I went to the movies with Maya."
"You were supposed to be doing homework. Do you know how worried I was when I realized you were gone?!" Riley looked at the ground to avoid her dad's steely gaze. "You better not have seen that horror movie I specifically said was off-limits." Her silence answered the question. "Damn it, Riley, I don't know what has gotten into you lately. You have been breaking the rules left and right. I think a week of double chores and no phone will help you think about your actions."
"What! A week without my phone," exclaimed Riley. "That is not fair." The moment the words left her mouth, she knew it was a mistake. Cory's nostrils flared in irritation.
"Fine! Two weeks." Riley squealed in protest as her dad pried the phone out of her hand and took it into his room. Scowling, Riley huffed in annoyance. Sometimes her dad bugged her so bad. It was incredibly irritating to have him as a teacher, making it impossible to escape his watchful eye. A moment later, Cory returned. "If you want to get your phone back any time soon, you better be on your best behavior for the next while."
Riley bit her tongue to hold back the sassy retort coming to mind. She knew it would only make matters worse. In Riley's English class, they were reading Gulliver's Travels. If her dad was only a couple inches tall, like the people of Lilliput, he could not tell her what to do. The thought made Riley smirk to herself.
At that moment, something bright flashed across the sky. Father and daughter both turned towards the window to see a comet streaking past. The light momentarily blinded them. When Cory's eyes recovered, he became disoriented. It appeared that he was no longer in Riley's room. His brain could not comprehend what had just happened.
Cory found himself knee-deep in some sort of grass. It was mostly blue, with some green and pink blades here and there. In the distance, he noticed a large and strange building. At a second glance, Cory realized that what he was seeing was a backpack... Riley's backpack. To his right, there was a giant shoe. Suddenly, Cory realized that he had just shrunk. The "grass" he was standing in was actually the rug in Riley's room.
"Dad?" asked Riley, confused. One minute he had been standing in front of her; the next, he was gone. Cory turned around to see his daughter towering over him like a skyscraper. The giant girl stepped forward. To avoid getting flattened by the huge socked foot, he dashed backward. Riley noticed the movement and looked down. "Dad?" she asked again, getting on her knees to examine the tiny figure. Cory could not help but marvel at the sheer size of his daughter.
Riley gently picked up her shrunken dad. "Oh my gosh!" Her expression was shifting from shock to amused. "I can't believe you shrunk. I was just imagining you as a resident of Lilliput, and then..."
"You need to get me back to normal," Cory interjected.
"I don't know how. Plus, I kind of like you at this size. You can't boss me around anymore." To emphasize the size difference, Riley closed her fist around her tiny dad. With Topanga gone visiting family, the teen girl would be free to do whatever she wanted.
"Young lady, if you don't get me help right now, you are going to be in so much trouble." Cory tried to sound as steer as possible, but it wasn't easy at his size.
Riley just burst out into laughter. "Even your voice is small." She rummaged through her backpack to find a ruler. With her dad standing in the palm of her hand, she measured him. "You are only about two inches tall. I could keep you prisoner in my pocket if I wanted." Before Cory could respond, there was a noise. Riley stood up quickly, hiding her tiny dad behind her back.
Auggie walked into Riley's room. "Who were you talking to?"
"Uh...I was on the phone...with um...Maya," she lied.
Her little brother noticed she was holding something. "What do you have there?" he asked curiously.
"Nothing," Riley replied. She backed up a little and dropped her shrunken dad onto her window seat. Then, to Cory's horror, she began to sit down. The tiny man was completely eclipsed by his daughter's giant jean-clad butt. At the last minute, he had the foresight to scramble out of the way to avoid getting flattened. However, the weight of Riley did cause him to slip forward. Cory could smell her flowery perfume and see every stitch in her bejeweled jeans pocket.
Auggie's eyes narrowed. He could tell his sister was acting strange. "Where is dad? Ava invited me to come over."
"Dad had to run some errands. So he left me in charge. You can go for over on one condition. Don't do anything stupid that will get us both in trouble," Riley said sternly. Her brother nodded with a smile, making to leave her room. "I mean it, if you do anything you are not supposed to do, I will have Maya give you another wedgie."
Auggie just smirked as he ran out. "Too bad I am not wearing any underwear."
Riley rolled her eyes, waiting for the door to close before standing up and scooping up her shrunken dad. "Now that he is gone, I am going to...
