Andrea hummed a little ditty as she hoisted up a pair of ceramic crockpots in either hand, the first being one with a nude chestnut pallor and ornate Greco-Roman pictures circling the widened rim, and the second being a goofier sort of teal colour with cartoonish monsters with one, two, four eyes, and so on and so forth, that gave it a quaint air of childish ebullience. However, both only cost a tenner each so neither was more than a cheap own brand knockoff.
"The, er..." Steven adjusted his glasses, wondering if he wasn't seeing something his older coworker was seeing, "...brown one?"
Andrea's face drooped into an unimpressed scowl. "Let's be serious here, Steven."
Steven rolled his eyes and returned to stacking the various pots the customers had (un)willingly placed onto the wrong shelves. "Why does the colour of your pots matter all of a sudden?"
"Because it's Tony's birthday today and, though he's not said anything outright, he's been giving the pots at home the old stink eye. In his defence, we've had those ancient things since my Mum first gave us a few bits and bobs to decorate the house when we'd first married."
Steven sighed, cursing himself for asking an open question. "How...nice?"
"Oh, quiet you." Andrea chuckled wryly as she set the pots back down and placed her hands on her wide hips. "Look, when you're old and greying like me you'll understand how sexy a good pot can make your partner. I get him a beautifully crafted pot, Tony gives me some hot, heavy, birthday sex."
Steven shuddered as the mental image of his soon-to-be-menopausing coworker trying to get 'freaky' in the bedroom with her husband.
"Thanks," he said meekly, "But I need to get a girlfriend first before I need to worry about any of that, but still, thanks."
"Oh." Andrea replied. "Well...good luck with that."
With that, Andrea span around and resumed her tasks. She coughed into her sleeve abruptly before she juggled the Greco-Roman in her hands once more, grinning profusely.   indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
