Chapter #5

Haley's Big Little Sister

by: Bobo the Hobo Author IconMail Icon
As Haley crossed the threshold into the kitchen, she came face to back as her sister grabbed a hearty helping of pancakes...

Or rather, more pancakes.

It had taken some getting used to, but the big-bellied blonde girl that eclipsed the kitchen sink was, in fact, the same sister that used to play with her on the playground, chase the neighborhood boys, and run track in high school. All without getting out of breath once. Where she was underneath all that blubber, Haley couldn't quite say. Sure, Mack started to fill out a little after there wasn't any pressure for her to stay in shape for sports, but when Haley had come home she almost didn't recognize her!

Her Fish Camp t-shirt was too tight along the meat of her back. Her spare tire was visible from behind as the burgundy tent hugged her fatted figure tightly. Mack's lovehandles rolled over the sides of her sweatpants and stretched the her top's cotton blend to the point of tautness as she stood at the countertop, piling her plate high with pancakes. Sure, she'd always had an appetite to her, but Haley couldn't help but think that her mama should have stepped in before now.

"Mornin' Mack." Haley smiled to her roly-poly relation as she stood in the queue, "You goin' to work today?"

"Later. I'm workin' the midshift." Her sister said in a heavy, sleepy voice, "But you know how mama is. Gotta get up for breakfast..."

Mackenzie had always been the baby of the family. And as such, she'd grown up spoiled through no real fault of her own. She'd had Haley to pal around with and she'd always gotten the better end of every argument when it came down to her mama weighing in. She got hand-me-downs and new stuff, whereas Haley had to fend more for herself. If either one of them was going to be able to stay at home and mooch off of their mama, it would have been Mackenzie.

But as she toddled around, back to the table and her seat at the head of the table, Haley couldn't help but remark to herself that it was even harder to find that rise-and-shine athlete underneath those chunky chipmunk cheeks and swaddling double chin. Whatever muscle she'd had as an (admittedly not very impressive) athlete had melted as she'd ballooned after graduation. Her arms bulged out of her sleeves, her ass squeezed out of her sweats by a good inch, and her old work shirt was clearly not up to the job of keeping her clothed.

Jeez, what was their mama feeding her? It couldn't have just been the leftovers from Fish Camp...

"What?" Mackenzie made a face, "I'm not pregnant if that's what you're asking."

"I, uh... didn't think you were." Haley cleared her throat, "You okay, Mack?"

"I'm sorry, I'm just tired... I had a long shift last night and my feet still hurt." her sister whined, plopping down with an "oof" and a scrape of her chair against the linoleum, "Mama usually lets me sleep in..."

"Well, you can take a nap after breakfast." Haley piled her plate with three pancakes and headed over to sit across from her big little sister, "You still working at the Fish Camp?"

"Yeah." Mack muttered distastefully as she sprinkled some crushed bacon on top of her pancakes before dousing them in syrup, "It's a livin'. Pass the butter?"

"Sure." Haley answered without a second thought, despite her misgivings about her sister's weight, "You like it?"

"Gawd no." Mackenzie snorted, her fleshy face folding derisively as if Haley had told a bad joke, "But it's nice not havin' to rely on mama for everything you know?"

"I know..."

It was obvious that Mackenzie didn't know really anything about not relying on their mama. In fact, Haley would probably go as far as to say that getting to be an only child while her big sister away had turned Mack into something of a big fat brat. She didn't do chores, she didn't help around the house, and mama didn't even charge her rent! But far be it from Haley to question how things were when she was away. If Mack wanted to lay around and let mama feed her 'til she pops, it wasn't Haley's place to say...

Though she might have to hit her up for some fried flounder. Haley hadn't had Fish Camp in a hot minute...

"Y'all gettin' along in there, girls?" Mrs. West's voice called out before she entered the kitchen, "No fighting?"

"No mama, we're gettin' along just fine."

"Mrmfmfmf." Mack managed through her mouthful, "Wha' she shaid."

"That's so good to hear." Mrs. West sounded almost relieved before she saw the paltry pile of pancakes on Haley's plate, "Honey, is that all you're going to eat? You've got a whole day of classes ahead of you!"

"...well yeah, mama." Haley blinked, "Three pancakes should hold me 'til lunch."

"Well... have some bacon and eggs. Just a little." Mrs. West hovered behind her eldest daughter's chair as she grabbed some kindling for the fire of Haley's appetite, "And no butter? Haley you always take butter on your pancakes!"

Haley grimaced as her mama fixed her plate up right, or at the very least until she was certain Haley was going to feel like she was gonna pop.

"And you, Missy Mack—you've got a whole shift ahead of you, so you eat up and rest up before you go into work." Mrs. West pointed a finger at her bigger, fatter, blonder daughter, "I don't want you whinin' about five more minutes when I wake you up 'round noon, okay?"

"Yes ma'am." Mackenzie bit off a huge chunk of bacon, egg, and pancake that had been piled together, "...Did you make biscuits, mama?"

"Oh shoot, I knew I forgot something." Mrs. West snapped her fingers as Mack's mood visibly soured further, "Haley honey, do you think you could stop by the store on your way back from school today?"

"Sure thing mama." Haley took a big bite of southern home cooking for the first time in years, "Happy to help you."

"Well that'll be a nice change of pace." Mrs. West gave her eldest a little pat on the head, "Eat up, hun. You've got a big day ahead of you!"
