It was a fine afternoon at Royal Woods High School where it was the final period before the bell rings. The school day was about to end and everyone was going to go home for the day, well, everyone who didn't have an after school club to attend, that is. Some students joined the music club while others were on a sports team, but for two students in particular, they had to go to the auditorium after school to rehearse for the high school drama club.
Those two were Benny Stein and his friend, Rex, who both had a passion for acting. However, before they could go to join the theatre club, they were currently working in their final class, specifically, chemistry. Benny and Rex were assigned to be lab partners tasked with mixing certain chemicals in the lab.
Following the teacher's instructions for the most part, the two teens were in the middle of creating a strange chemical, fortunately, they had their safety goggles on.
"Okay. For the next part, add some of this blue stuff." Rex said, carefully pouring a drop of the provided blue chemical into their main solution. In doing so, the main solution in front of them began to turn purple. "Wow. Check it out, Benny. This is like one of those sci-fi movies. Benny?" Rex then noticed that Benny's eyes were on something else.
Benny wasn't really as focused on their project as Rex was. He was actually more focused on the girl standing a few lab tables away from him. It was his girlfriend, Luan Loud, who was working on the same chemistry experiment and Benny was staring at her intently with an infatuated look on his face, much to Rex's annoyance.
"Hey, Benny!" Rex shouted, snapping the young actor-in-training out of his love-induced trance. Benny then turned to his lab partner and was a bit surprised to see the angry look on Rex's face.
"Oh, hey Rex." Benny nervously greeted.
"Benny, can you please focus here?" Rex began. "Get your head in the game and off of Luan. We'll get to the theatre club meeting today, but first, we have to take care of this."
"Okay, okay Rex. I'm sorry." Benny apologized before taking a deep breath. He then got back to the task at hand and read the next step in their handbook. "Okay, what's next?"
"I just added the blue chemical to the solution." Rex replied. "Now, the next thing we do is mix it up and then add a little bit of this green chemical into it."
"What do you think this will even do anyway?" Benny asked.
"Don't know. But, if we're going to find out then let's get it done." Rex answered. He then began to stir the solution for a few minutes while taking some notes down. Benny held the next chemical to place into the mixture, ready and waiting for Rex's signal to pour in a single drop of it.
"On my signal, Benny." Benny followed Rex and held the green vile over the solution, prepared to pour a drop. But before Benny could actually hear the signal, his eyes turned to Luan again and he saw that she and her lab partner were already finished with their project.
As Luan moved back to her desk and away from the lab table, she saw that it was safe to remove her goggles. So, she took them off and quickly took off her scrunchy to stretch out her hair from the stuffiness of the safety equipment. Benny watched as Luan let her hair down and swung it back and forth, causing him to resume his trance and once again, lose focus on the project.
"Okay Benny. Now." Rex commanded. He gave Benny the signal to pour the green solution into the mixture, but he saw that Benny was distracted again and grew even angrier at him than he was before. "BENNY!" Rex angrily shouted.
"Huh?!" Benny was startled by Rex's sudden outburst and didn't pay attention once he accidentally poured the green chemical into the solution. He was only supposed to add in a small drop of it, but because he wasn't focusing on it, Benny accidentally poured the whole thing into the solution.
"Now look what you've done!" Benny was about to apologize again, but then, they noticed something wrong with their concoction. It began bubbling rapidly as it slowly changed from purple to red. "Uh oh!" They both said as the beaker began rattling from the solution's volatile behavior.
Benny and Rex anxiously stepped back as it foamed up much faster and leaked out of the beaker. They didn't have to take cover as the solution eventually exploded. The two boys were now covered in the red goop of their mixture and grew terrified as their teacher now stood in front of them with an angry look on his face.
Benny and Rex were then ordered to stay after class to clean up their mess, with Rex still being angry at Benny for getting them into trouble. He tried to say something, but Rex didn't want to hear it. The moment they were finished they began heading for the auditorium.
"I'm really sorry, Rex." Benny said, but Rex still didn't accept it.
"Forget it Benny, it's all your fault. If you had focused on the project instead of your girlfriend, we wouldn't be late for theatre club."
"I know." Benny admitted with a sigh. "Look, I'll try and make it up to you. Just tell me what I can do."
"How about you promise me that you won't blank out if we become partners again?"
"Okay Rex. I promise I'll be a better partner from now on." Benny said. "So, are we cool now?" Benny extended his hand out for a handshake, hoping Rex would forgive him.
He was hesitant to do it at first, but then Rex simply let out his anger and gave Benny another chance. "Okay. Apology accepted, Benny." Rex said, shaking Benny's hand. "Now let's get to theatre club."
Benny agreed with Rex as they walked to the club room. But along the way, Benny noticed something strange about the lockers. "Hey Rex." They both suddenly stopped in their tracks as Benny got Rex's attention. "Do you see something off here?"
"What?" Rex asked in confusion. "Well, weren't the locker locks at a shorter height than we were before?" Benny asked, and Rex saw what he was talking about.
"I think you're right." Rex admitted. "But it's probably nothing." They continued walking until they were close to the theatre club room. But along the way, they noticed something strange from before. They were now at a height below the doorknob. "What the?"
"Rex, I think something weird is going on here." Benny said. "I think you're right." Rex agreed as they both grew scared at what was happening. But before anything else happened, they both suddenly dwindled even lower in height.
"What just happened?!" Rex shouted. "Did we-"
"Yeah, I think we shrunk!" Benny answered. "We're tiny!" It was true. Benny and Rex were now shrunken to the size of ants just outside the door to the school theatre.
Rex thought about it and quickly realized what caused their sudden shrinkage. "*gasp* It must've been that potion, Benny. The potion from the lab splashed on us and caused us to shrink."
"You're right. What do we do?" Benny asked, desperately hoping for a solution. "We need to get help, Benny. The girls in the theatre should be able to help us out."
Benny agreed as they both went under the theatre door, since they were small enough to fit under it. They soon ran closer to the stage before getting tired. "Okay. What next?" Benny asked.
But before Rex could respond, a shadow covered the two shrunken teens and they looked up to see something big about to come down on them. "RUN!" Rex shouted. The duo quickly ran out of the way before they got crushed. But as soon as they turned around, Benny and Rex saw that they almost get stepped on by none other than Luan Loud.
They gasped in shock as they looked up to see Luan towering miles above them, as did the other girls in the theatre club. It wasn't only Luan there, though. All of the girls in the theatre club were there: Amy, Lyberti, Ruby, Shannon, and even Mrs. Bernardo were all there and they all looked like giant towering monsters to the two shrunken boys on the floor.
"OH. MY. GOSH!" They both shouted. "All of the girls here are humungous. We've got to get out of here, Benny. If we don't, we'll get stepped on!" Rex explained.
"No way, Rex. We can't survive at this size. If we want to get back to normal, then we need their help." Benny disagreed. "Come on, Luan will help us." Benny was about to start running towards Luan, but before he could get a head start, something happened to keep him from her.
