Jessica knocked on the twins door, and to her luck, they were both home. They were pretty good friends, so they gladly invited her in. They asked her what she seemed so excited about, so she produced the bottle of glue from her bag with a grin.
"Glue? Umm... okay? I don't see what's so special about that." Amy said, sounding confused.
"It's MAGIC glue! Don't you want to find out what it can do?"
"I think that's just the name. I don't think it's literally magic. Sorry to burst your bubble. It's just off-brand superglue."
"Oh. Right." Jessica felt like a idiot. It wasn't the first time she had made mistakes like that. But something about that bottle had just felt different, and it was more than just the name. She was sure of it! Hoping to reclaim her dignity, she read the label, looking for information on it. Surprisingly, there was very little information on the label. The instructions were simply to apply the glue to a surface, and press the two surfaces together. "Bonds instantly." Even superglue recommends holding it together for a minute or so. There was only one other section on it. "To remove, wait until the bond softens after..."
The rest of that sentence seemed to be blurry. Well, not 'blurry' by the strictest definition. She tried to focus her eyes on it, but for some reason she just couldn't make sense of what was written there. It was like trying to read something in a dream.
"Can you read this?" she asked, and handed the bottle to the twins. They scratched their heads for a moment.
"No, that last part is rubbed out," Amy said.
"It's not rubbed out," Sarah corrected. "I think the printer glitched. It's not English or Japanese, and that's all I can tell you."
"It's not ANYTHING!" Amy argued. None of them could seem to agree about what was in that missing block. Almost as if the bottle itself was... magic! Jessica smiled, starting to think maybe she had been right all along! If even the bottle was magic, what about the glue inside? She tingled with excitement just thinking about it!
"But obviously," she cut in, "the glue loosens after some time. So, it's not quite the same as superglue. And maybe it's not permanent, so it should be safe to play around with a little. What do you say?"
"I still don't think it's a great idea," Amy argued. Sarah, however, was staring mesmerized at the bottle. Apparently, one of them had come under its spell already, just like Jessica had.
She had an idea, acting on a strange instinct that came to her. She uncapped the bottle and gave it a couple of squeezes, just enough to release some of the vapors. Upon smelling the sweet, chemical smell, Jessica's desire to use it on something spiked. When she looked up, Amy was now staring at the bottle, transfixed, and Sarah was reaching for it.
"Hold on, hold on!" she said, pulling the bottle out of Sarah's reach. "So what do you say, do you want to see what this stuff can do?"
"Okay," Amy agreed at last. "I guess we can experiment a little."
"Yeah! What did you want to do with it?" Sarah asked. She was running her fingers up the skin of her left arm, seemingly envisioning what the glue would do on her bare flesh.
Jessica grinned from ear to ear.
