Chapter #5

Quest for the Hand of Quintaris

by: Johnny Foxx Author IconMail Icon
Ultimately, you decided to go with the Oath of Light. As it turns out, you're something of a natural for the class you've selected. You manage to complete your training in just over two years, and after your graduation you are accepted as an official member of the Hero's Guild.

With your lifelong dream accomplished, you can't wait to begin your first real quest. With your golden armor on and blessed sword at your side, you check the Guild's quest board.

One notice immediately catches your eye, bearing the royal seal of the king himself! It says any heroes interested should report to the palace for details. You head there immediately, finding nine other eroes waiting in the foyer, ranging from novices such as yourself to veterans.

You are greeted by the royal court wizard, Ignatius. "Welcome, Heroes of the kingdom. I'm sure you're all wondering what exactly the king has summoned you for, so let's cut to the chase. I have been asked to tell you on his Majesty's behalf, to inform you your quest is to retrieve the legendary Hand of Quintaris."

At this, a few of the assembled heroes gasped in surprise. "You can't be serious!" One exclaimed "I am deathly serious." Ignatius said "We have reason to believe that the hand does indeed exist, and would be a most invaluable boon for the kingdom, were it discovered."

The Hand of Quintaris was thought by most to be a mere myth. In ages past, a horrible and deadly plague ravaged the kingdom. A noble and righteous priest of Quintaris, god of mercy and healing, prayed to his patron to give him the means to end the suffering and death caused by the epidemic.

His prayers were answered, and his right hand took on a golden shine, gaining the ability to heal whomever it touched from any disease or injury, even those on the verge of death. It also gained the ability to turn any object into solid gold, which the priest, whose name has been lost to history, used to aid the poor and destitute.

For many years, the priest traveled the world, working miracles through his blessing, until dying of old age. But before he was cremated, as was his order's custom, an unknown thief severed his hand from his body, and it was never seen again.

"So, just where is the hand, anyway?" One of the assembled heroes asked. "That will be the most difficult part of your quest." Ignatius said with a sigh. "We have received several conflicting reports of the hand's location. So you will have to investigate them until you find it. Since there are ten of you, we shall split you up into two teams of five. Whichever team brings back the hand, will be greatly rewarded."

You ended up on a team comprised of two dark elf twins, both female, as well as rogues, a minotaur barbarian wielding a gigantic battle-axe as large as you were tall, and a Tortle shaman. After introductions were made, you learned the elves were Jia and Mia, the minotaur was Rogthrak, and the tortle was Kobi-Maan.

Ignatius informed you of your potential leads, and thus your first quest had begun. Where does it take you first?

You have the following choices:

1. The Cursed Necropolis

2. The Dragonlands

3. A notorious crime boss's manor

4. An abandoned temple

5. Across the sea

*Noteb* indicates the next chapter needs to be written.
