"I think it's best if you... by which I mean me. Stays home today, I don't know anything about your school life," Janice said with a scowl, indicating that she wished Jackson would tell her more. "And I want to be here for you, to help with any adjustments."
Jackson nodded as he didn't know how to handle this. At least it meant they didn't need to worry about anything too major and because his mother stayed home, she was able to continue doing whatever she was doing. Jackson went back to his room and loaded up his games. It took him a little while to adjust though, seeing as he wasn't used to his mother's hands or fatter fingers and his reaction time was a littler slower. Still it felt good to kill some bots and forget about the crappy situation for now.
Though one thing they would not be escaping was his mother's family. He didn't consider Michael to be his dad or Cynthia to be his sister but to his mother they were family. Michael wasn't a bad person, he loved Janice and truly cared for her, he was a lot harder on Jackson though. Cynthia and Jackson didn't get along but mostly avoided each other. Those two were completely different and wouldn't even socialise if their parents were married.
Fortunately for Jackson both were out at the moment. Cynthia was also 18 and so was at school, they made their own way there and she was an early riser. Michael was out on the road but would be coming back later tonight. Jackson's face went white, he'd be sleeping in the same bed as his step-father and after a week on the road, there was likely one thing he'd have on his mind.
Jackson needed another cigarette and so he went back out onto the porch. He didn't even know how to bring this up with his mother, he just hoped there was a solution to this problem.
