This choice: With Mr Takanada and the boys • Go Back...Chapter #6With Mr Takanada and the boys by: Unknown Tomio flicked the lid of his lighter upwards, staring intently at the fire raging inside. They were all huddled cosily inside the boy's room, creating a claustrophobic atmosphere which wasn't helped by the fact that the room was plunged into absolute darkness. Beside him a posse of other troublesome boys oohed and aahed at the sight of the flame. One stupid little curd even stuck his hand over the flame only to be cuffed over the head by the boy standing behind him.
"You f*cking stupid, Ryu?" the older boy spat as Ryu rubbed the sore spot on his scalp. He turned round to swing but his arm was quickly grabbed by Ken standing next to him. He flailed and punched the air, leaving the older boy to laugh at his expense.
"That's ironic coming from you, Yamamoto," Ken retorted, still restraining a riled up Ryu with both arms. "Considering you have the IQ of a f*cking tapeworm."
Yamamoto grinned slightly. He was one of the oldest boys on the trip and used this to his advantage. Many of the boys, excluding Tomio and his two lieutenants, were deathly afraid of him, to which he knew with twisted pleasure. This fear was completely justified, considering Yamamoto's record of either flunking out or being kicked out of four of his last five schools (he would've made it five if he'd had his way but his mother had threatened him to be on his best behaviour). It didn't hurt that the boy was an absolute behemoth, 6'2" and built like an ox with decent musculature and black peach fuzz on his chin.
"Control your dogs, Hirabayashi," he grunted with an arrogant smile, not even acknowledging Ken, "Before they start barking something that I take offence to."
Silence settled over the group of boys sitting down. The air seemed to crackle with nervous energy. Tomio seemed to change his posture, hunching over ever so slightly, as if he was trying to prevent a violent outburst from spewing out from himself. Ryu and Ken watched silently, the former's smile creeping wider and the latter's eyes opening in alarm. Yamamoto cracked his knuckles expectantly; he relished the thrill of fighting and it'd been a while since he'd had the pleasure of almost pounding someone's skull in.
He was surprised when the confrontation never came. The group seemed to take a collective sigh of relief as Tomio's shoulders relaxed. His spiky black hair waved as he craned his neck backwards.
"He's right Ryu, simmer down." Ryu grimaced fiercely and clenched his fists in defiance. Still, he obeyed his leader and relaxed accordingly. He shook off Ken's grip and continued to stare menacingly at Yamamoto's ugly mug. Tomio capped his lighter and pocketed it into his baggy black hoodie. There was a tiny smile on his face as he said, "We've got plans tonight that you'd rather not have a black eye for."
"Plans?" Yamamoto asked. "Don't tell me that you're scheming again, you stupid prick. We're already so far from home, who are you supposed to be rebelling against this time? You thick are just downright retarded?"
"Neither, Yamamoto. We just wanted to take a little excursion down to the Casino on the lower level. Nothing major, just want to see how things worked down there." Ryu laughed softly and elbowed Ken's shoulder. He didn't respond outwardly but it was evident he was apprehensive, the blood seeming to have drained completely out of the poor boy's face.
Yamamoto looked at the trio incredulously. "With what money? Your daddy may be the Principal, but that doesn't mean you get special treatment. We all got banned from bringing money along."
Tomio smiled devilishly and snapped his fingers. Ryu bowed and made his way to the far corner of the room. The boys looked on intently as he slid a small duffel bag from underneath one of the beds. He strolled his way bag over and dumped it haphazardly on the bedsheet. With a flourish, he unzipped the bag to reveal a whole heap of English notes and coins. The rowdy kids behind began clambering over one another in order to sneak a peek of the stash, a couple of the braver ones hovering their slimy fingers over in hopes of grabbing something. Ryu snapped the bag shut again and murderously hissed, "You take a single penny and I will f*cking slit your throats." The rest of the boys promptly retreated, cowering in fear behind Yamamoto's intimidating physique.
Yamamoto whistled in admiration. "Nice haul you've got there. Where's it from?"
"Just some money my parents gave me over Christmas," Ken replied meekly. "My parents are on the verge of divorcing so they just chuck the stuff my way. There wasn't much else I was going to do with it so I decided to give it up." Tomio nodded proudly in Ken's direction, flashing one of his patented toothy smiles. It was small but Ken blushed and turned his head away, focusing on a spider crawling by the windowsill.
Tomio continued speaking as Ryu tucked the money back in its hiding place. "This is only our reserve stash, just in case of emergencies. Who brings loads of cash anyway when they've got the skills to 'borrow' more from a couple rich motherf*ckers?"
Hurried murmurs began to circulate amongst the antsy crowd. Yamamoto crossed his arms and guffawed in disbelief. "Let me get this straight: you've no IDs, no way to verify your age, no means of quick escape considering the fact we've only been at this place for two f*cking hours, and you're going to steal from people?! Hirabayashi, that's not just the stupidest f*cking idea I've ever heard, it's a criminal f*cking offence! If you get caught-"
"We won't get caught," Ryu piped in. Suddenly they all heard the rapping of knuckles on the room door. A few boys ducked under the covers or into the bathrom as Mr Takanada steamrolled his way in, his eyes looking tired and musty and the ever-present stench of booze and cigarettes swirling around him.
"What do you boys think you're doing?" he yelled. The boys sat in stunned silence.
Eventually Tomio grew tired of the quiet and said, "Just chatting, sir. Nothing to worry about." Mr Takanada peered round the room once more. He shrugged and shook his head. He wasn't being paid enough to care about whatever sh*t was going on in there. "I don't care what you were chatting about, Hirabayashi. It's bedtime, for all of you. So go on, scram you little buggers!" The posse of boys groaned as Takanada ushered most of them out, grumbling to themselves under their breaths.
"You f*cking suck balls, sir!" he heard a pluck little bastard swear quietly. He rolled his eyes. He looked into the room one last time. "You too boys," he said to the three troublemakers still inside and Yamamoto who'd hung about. "Got a packed day tomorrow. Don't want anyone grumbling about a lack of beauty sleep at sun-up." The boys nodded in unison.
Mr Takanada nodded grimly himself before he closed the door shut behind him. He made his way across the hall to his dorm and pulled the clasp across to lock the door. He wiped a bead of sweat from his balding scalp and turned to survey the room. He grinned. Working for a school of this calibre meant he had to work with all types of snobbish little pricks with more m's in their trust funds than braincells. But this, the exotic trips and lavish accommodations, this was worth it all. He sighed contentedly as he flopped onto his pressed sheets. He wasted no time in booting up his phone and opening the Hub. He could barely handle himself being around so many girls at one time back in the reception. He wasn't a paedo, at least he hadn't acted on his surreptitious thoughts and never would, but being in such close proximity to so many had been unbearable. The first thing that came up on his feed was 'Naughty Lesbian Japanese Schoolgirls'. He cracked a rare smile. Figures, he thought as he pulled a bottle of lotion from his suitcase.

The only boy outside Tomio's inner circle still inside the boys' room was that big brute Yamamoto. He himself wa about to start heading out when Tomio brusquely cleared his throat. There was an uncharacteristically serious expression on his face.
"Oh, and Yamamoto? Don't talk to my friends like that again. Otherwise I'll snap your legs into f*cking pieces." His voice was as calm as it was ruthless.
Yamamoto chuckled. "I'd like to see you try, Hirabayashi." He gave one last devilish grin before his head finally disappeared out from the doorframe.
