“I’ve made a decision,” you tell your partner. “We’re going to look for Mew right away. We can’t delay any longer.”
Chimchar nods and smiles, and you smile back and pet her hand. “Alright, girl, let’s get out of this tree and start searching.”
Your partner holds you to her chest and carefully climbs down the tree. Despite having one hand occupied, she’s able to make it down just as easily as she climbed up. You reach the ground safely, then Chimchar starts loping forward in her typical knuckle-walking fashion, albeit with only three limbs.
You quickly notice that because of the way Chimchar is holding you, you’re facing her chest, so you can’t tell where you’re going. You ask her to turn you around, and she immediately does so, deftly rotating you in her fist so you’re facing in the direction she’s moving. You pat her hand, and start looking around at the forest, trying to find any signs of Mew.
“I just thought of one problem,” you say after a minute or two of walking. “Mew can fly, so she won’t leave any tracks, or any sort of evidence of where she’s been. It might be harder to track her down than I thought.”
“Chim...” Chimchar mutters. She sounds sad, sharing your concern.
“But maybe we can find some other Pokémon, and you can ask them if they’ve seen Mew,” you suggest.
“Ch-chim chi, char!” your partner stammers, looking down at you with a worried expression. You also notice her fist tighten around you, like some sort of protective instinct.
“Um... oh, wait... you’re worried if we run into another Pokémon, it might try to take me from you. Right?”
“Cha chi,” she says with a nod.
“That’s a good point. The Shinx sure didn’t seem friendly... I’m pretty sure it wanted to eat me. I bet plenty of other Pokémon will, too. But as long as you’re here, I think most Pokémon will leave us alone. So don’t worry.”
“Chi cha, chim chi,” Chimchar says, still looking worried.
“It’ll be fine,” you say, stroking her hand. “And if you’re that worried about me getting eaten, we can just make sure to only approach herbivores. They definitely won’t eat me.”
Chimchar pauses, then sits down and lifts her free hand to her mouth. She opens it (giving you a frightening look at the interior and her fangs) and points inside, then shuts her mouth and shakes her head. She then makes a grabbing motion with her hand, and you start to figure out what she’s trying to say.
“Not eating, but grabbing... Oh! You’re worried that those herbivores might still try to kidnap me, even if they won’t eat me?”
“Cha chi!” Chimchar says.
“I guess that’s another good point. Well, I don’t see any other options, unfortunately. Our only chance to find Mew is talking with some other Pokémon. We’ll just have to hope they don’t try to steal me away from you.”
Your Pokémon is clearly uneasy with this plan, but she nods anyway, and she resumes walking. Both you and her look for signs of any Pokémon, and eventually, you see something moving in a bush. You draw Chimchar’s attention to it, and out of the bush comes...
