Chapter #4Alone in Open Space by: Ponymon Still reeling from what had just transpired, you couldn’t believe how rotten your luck had become! Not too long ago, you earned your first gym badge with the help of your only partner. After that, you got to spend a few relaxing days in Rustboro city to celebrate your first win.
Roxanne, Rustboro’s gym leader, was even kind enough to let you attend a few of her advanced courses at the Pokemon school. The courses you attended were all about the Hoen region’s gym leaders. Who they were, what types they used, and what cities they all lived in. She even briefly discussed the time of years all the gym leaders were always taking time off. With all of that extra information, you thought you could have planned out a pretty good journey.
But all of those good results and generosity were wasted because of your unfortunate encounter with a legendary Pokemon. And that wasn’t something you ever thought would be considered unfortunate. Most people would kill for a chance to meet a legendary Pokemon, let alone get some pictures with one. Then again, they didn’t know that meeting a legendary apparently ended with them being shrunk and challenged to find the same ultra rare Pokemon again.
You let out an angry huff of breath, trying to calm yourself down a bit. There was no use in being angry right now. Well, there was a good reason for your anger, but it was pointless to dwell on it. It wouldn’t help you find Mew, and it could distract you so much that you wouldn’t even notice any danger before it struck. You had to focus on what you should do.
A bit calmer now, you take some time to go over what you knew.
Right now you were on the outskirts of Rustboro city, near the large lake that acted as a sort of gate to the city. You remember how cool the extensive walkway over the lake seemed when you first came to Rustboro; and that double battle that you managed to win with only your one partner.
Speaking of your partner, you recalled they told you they were going to stay by the shore of the lake while you slept. You briefly wondered if having your partner with you might have stopped this from happening. Maybe Mew wouldn’t have been as eager to play with you if you had them with you. It’s not like your partner could necessarily fight off Mew, but you assumed Mew wouldn’t like being seen by any sort of group. She probably preferred individuals so she could do stuff like she did to you.
You couldn’t remember anything else especially important about where you were. You had no reason to count how many people were around before you fell asleep. But, you guessed it was safe to say that there was no one too close by. Otherwise, they would have spotted Mew and scared her away. Of course, someone could have shown up by now without you knowing. The grass around you was so tall that it prevented you from seeing very far away. So being concerned about other people right now was pretty much irrelevant.
The same thing went for wild Pokemon. If one found you without your partner, you probably had no choice but to deal with it yourself. But there was even less of a chance for you to see a wild Pokemon before it found you. So neither of those things were something you had to consider.
All you could do was decide between going to find your partner or going back to Rustboror. Both options had their pros, cons, and dangers.
Going back to Rustboro was probably immediately safer, but the long term danger was greater. You believed the city was slightly closer to you than the lake. That was good because you’d be out in the wild less and less likely to run into a wild Pokemon. You were also more generally visible in a city than tucked away in grass.
The problem was that you had no idea who you should go to for help there. The only person that came to mind was Roxanne, who had been exceptionally nice to you. She probably would be a big help, but the problem was getting to her. The only places you knew she could be were her gym and the school, which were both far inside the city. Getting to either of them would mean having to get past a lot of people and who knows what else.
Which led you to your other option of going to the lake and finding your partner. You knew that you could one hundred percent trust your partner to help you, and they were a lot closer than the gym and school! Yet… that meant you had to be out in the wild for longer. The chances of running into a wild Pokemon was a lot higher and the limited vision was very worrying.
You could try to find a trainer wandering around nearby. Their presence would probably scare away or at least distract any wild Pokemon. But they could also miss you completely and crush you by accident. Then again, avoiding being crushed by one person would be a lot easier than avoiding an entire city full of people.
It was a tough decision, but you had to choose quickly... indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
