This choice: She sends you to your former partner, Nick Norton. • Go Back...Chapter #6She sends you to your former partner, Nick Norton. by: Mr. George You cross the floor. Feeling utterly humiliated and exposed as you walk. As if every eye is on you, judging you, your body. Your thoughts race, as you try to work out how to pitch your next conversation. Do you go in strong, and demand that Nick restores you, accept that you've been moved aside but demand your masculinity is restored as you step aside. That feels trickier, your new instincts and timidity warn you that it's a high risk strategy.
Or do you go in apologetic, offering to embrace this new role, and hope to rise through the ranks. Throw yourself on Nick's mercy.

Too soon, you're at Nick's office door. A new secretary sits as a receptionist. You can't bring yourself to admit who you are... Taking advantage of her distraction, you step past her. Hoping to project a confidence you absolutely don't feel.
The handle feels too heavy to move, your fear freezing you. A shudder running through you, as you shake off the fear. Properly you twist the handle but it remains locked and immobile. Humiliation overcomes you, as you turn to the secretary. "Is Nick in or not?"
It doesn't sound as intimidating in your new voice. You cringe at how petulant and shrill it sounds.
"I'm Nikki!" she shrieks back. "I can't even say my real name... or fudg'n swear now. That... That Akie is a meanie..." She snapped back.
"Nick.... Nick Norton?" you ask in shock, gazing at her you hunt for some trace of your friends on those unfamiliar features. But, there's none.
"It's me, Tom.. Tom Black." you confess, with a faint quaver in your voice.

A polite faux-cough startles you both to see the gloating Akie enjoying the sight of you commiserating.
"You shouldn't take advantage of your friends." She addressed her words to you.
"And you should learn to read a contract properly, and not rely on the person you just betrayed... or the woman who whispered lies and innuendo into your ear."
Nikki flinched, realising her betrayal had been orchestrated, based on lies and her, well his insecurities.

Nikki: Nick No More
Nikki was struggling with the same too brief skirt, Tom felt her hopes sink.
"Now, you can both keep on working for me." Akie offered, "But, it's on the understanding you'll never become more than the secretaries you appear to be. You'll wear those cute miniskirts to work for the rest of your life, and never again wear pants like these." She smoothed her own well tailored suit in contrast.
"If you decide to refuse my offer, know that neither of you exist as women... and you'll work for me, as secretaries, or as your madame in one of my other enterprises." |
