An alien sky was crashing down on you, in the middle of an alien jungle, on what could only be an alien world. Panting, you pushed through and dodged past the strange, blade-like trees as the shadows grew darker around you. Tripping over boulders and loose patches of dirt, you could hear the thunder of the rainbow cloud overhead crashing down…you heard it smashing into the upper canopy of foliage before the thin green blades began to bend and snap overhead! You threw yourself on the ground and curled up in the fetal position, screaming for someone to wake you from this nightmare before you di-

You’d never experienced a skyfall before, but you thought clouds would be a lot fluffier even if they smashed through a whole forest of trees. Heavy, dark walls pressed into the earth around you, carving deep trenches into the ground. You felt frustrated tears streaming down your face as you were pinned, helpless, to the dirt floor. Would you die like this? Slowly suffocating as each bit of breath you let out was accompanied by the cloud pressing down like a vice? A long, lonely, painful end. Your body shuddered with a silent sob…and just as you felt the darkness creeping in at the edges of your vision, your execution was suspended.
CRNNNNN….
Your ears rang with the sound of thousands of those strange trees groaning as they slowly began to rise. A system of capillaries pumped water through them, lifting those that had avoided being snapped under the weight of the rainbow-colored cloud back skyward. As you slowly sat back up, you could see some that had been severed in the trenches surrounding your body, their green stalks snapped and bleeding water into the pits that their bodies had been tossed into.
“Y-You’ve got to be kidding me,” you said as you looked at the rising cloud and saw it starting to fall again some way off to the right.
Now that you weren’t directly under it, you saw that it was something more than a cloud. It was…familiar. Familiar, but increasingly unbelievable because of its familiarity! You’d seen something like the cloud before, but never that big…. Crocs didn’t come in aircraft hangar size. But you couldn’t deny the shape, nor the pale tower rising from the back of it up into the sky.
BABOOOOM….
As it fell a few yards to the right, you looked around at the sky through the clearing of trees that had been flattened around you…and felt sick. You recognized the shapes of people, but not the proportions. They were massive! Your eyes fell to some distant blade-trees in the distance and your stomach sank like a rock. You knew those shapes too.
“Fuck,” you whispered, your guts wrapped up in anxious knots.
The cloud wasn’t unusually large, nor were the titans overhead impossibly tall, nor were the trees alien. You knew them all very well. You recognized the wearer of the cloud as Nuki…the forest as a field of grass…and yourself…as unbelievably fucked. You were the size of an ant in a field as Nuki signed autographs at the concert you’d been attending right before you were suddenly ‘transported’ to an ‘alien’ world.

You had to say it out loud. Only then would the reality sink in. The words chocked your throat as you whimpered, “I’m a bug.”
A bug. A bug in a field. A bug in a field between two gigantic feet…that had already survived being stepped on once. If you stayed, you were asking for Nuki to finish you off properly with another step, snapping you the same way she’d snapped the blades of grass in half. You imagined your own body bisected and half-buried in one of the trenches. No. You weren’t going to die like that if you could help it! Your eyes turned towards the massive, colorful airplane hanger in the distance and the pale curve of her heel resting on the back edge. Steeling yourself, you began charging through the forest once more…your only hope of getting out of this alive was getting seen by someone normal-sized. Nuki might have almost killed you once, but she was your only hope of living to see tomorrow. indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
