This choice: Explore the expanse of the crack • Go Back...Chapter #4Exploring the crack in the floor by: Inverse Carrie was left lost and confused at the completely alien world she found herself in. She continued to try screaming out for help, but her voice just echoed throughout the massive expansive that went on endlessly. She pulled out her phone to try and use it, but while she was able to use most of its other features, she was unable to receive a signal to text or call. With nothing else left, she figured all she could really do was trek on ahead.
She spent what would end up being the next hour slowly walking in a straight line, terrified at the environment that surrounded her. Dirt mounds that ranged from half her size to as tall as mountains were the least of her worries as she passed by objects she couldn't even comprehend, like a weird large brown bush (actually just a clump of loose hair), or a long reflective archway that extended overhead (a toenail).
During all this, Carrie continued to grow more physically and emotionally exhausted. She always prided herself on being a hard worker that can deal with any task given to her, handling things under pressure, and even being best off as a solo worker, but suddenly thrown into this environment all alone was too much. Not to mention, she was never the most athletic, so being given a "task" like this involving endless walking didn't really suit her too well. "At least I'm getting my fill for the year" she thought to herself. The fact that she wasn't dressed for it at all, what with her high-heels, work dress, and tight work skirt made it worse, constantly tripping on rocks, stopping to rest tired feet, and wiping off all the dirt getting stuck to her.
She would often continue to pull out her phone to check the time and use the camera to take pictures of the weird things she stumbles across, as well as hydrating herself with the water bottle in her purse. Every so often she'd walk past a cross in the road, with a new pathway opening up leading directly to her left and right, but she chose to continue onwards forward, not wanting to make the labyrinth even harder to deal with.
After so long of moving coming across nothing but mountains of junk, Carrie started to become complacent. She was still incredibly nervous and had no plan, but she was able to get lost in her thoughts through the general "peaceful"-ness of her isolation. That is, until she reached another cross in the road when she heard a noise, the first real noise she's heard since entering this "world". She stopped herself behind the edge, hearing a continued increase in loud rustling, before deciding to peek around the bend to see what it is. It was here that she spotted what looked to be a creature of indistinguishable design and size chowing down on what looked like some kind of carcass down the "hallway." "It's a monster!" she internally screaming to herself. When it went back to eating, Carrie booked it for the first time since arriving here, running as fast as she possibly can to get away from whatever *that* was.
Not paying attention, Carrie slammed head first into a hard metal cylinder, who's size took up half of the chasm, and which stretched on all the way to the top. The impact knocked Carrie down to the floor, forcing her to get back up and walk around to attempt to investigate what this monstrous structure was. It was here that she was finally able to piece together where she was. With her back up against the wall, and neck craning upwards, she was able to recognize what appeared to be several huge numbers engraved on it, including what looked to be the face of a person, something that looked oddly familiar.
It took longer than she wanted to put it all together, but after staring at it she knew what she was looking at: a giant dime. She initially had the first thought of wondering why someone who build a giant dime and put it here, but she quickly stopped herself as her heart suddenly stopped, finally putting two-and-two together. Thinking about all she had just seen and passed by, and now faced against what could only be a humongous coin, realizing that she has been shrunken down into her floorboards, Carrie slumped down seemingly in defeat, holding herself from not trying to panic too much as she screamed out loud "I'M MICROSCOPIC!??" indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
