The old witch sits idly by, her blackened beginning to beat as she mulls over the moral implication of the girl she just cursed possibly being nice. She knew that if the girl was generous, it could be authentic and she would feel terrible, or perhaps the girl was just trying to save face and didn't care? The witch scowled. But what if she bought something cheap? Her scowl grew more wrinkled and she had to turn away lest the girl see her grimacing. The witch honored good behavior as much as anything, but in equal measure she loathed cheapskates. And her magical curios were already bargain bin prices!
While the witch struggled with her own moral failings and obligations, Alice perused the collection of weird and apparently arcane trinkets and curios. All of them looked to geeky for her, like the woman was some sort of H.P. Lovecraft enthusiast or ancient aliens lover. However, one piece caught her eye. It was a singular earring with a oddly shaped purple stone with several very small runes etched into it, embedded in the front, mounted on a silver band.
"How much is that one?" Alice asked, genuinely interested in the item.
The witch looked at the earring, and tamped down her look of disappointment so it wouldn't show. She coughed, shaking the malignant tones from her raspy voice. "Ten dollars my dear."
"I'll take it then, if that's ok." Alice said.
The old with grunted, "Will that be all?"
Alice nodded and the old woman huffed and placed the ring in the girl's outstretched hand, then took the two fives that were offered to her. Alice pocketed the ring and went about her merry way. The witch laughed, noticing the slight seam on the girl's midriff. Won't be more than an hour or two before that curse comes into effect... she thought. She then giggled again, thinking of the trinket Alice had bought. It was cheap, sure, but only because it was cursed! The witch cracked a grin as she thought about that particular earring. She almost wondered if it was fate, seeing as although the earring was cursed, it just might help that fool girl in dealing with the other curse.
