Chapter #6

Sharon pulls her aside to talk rationally about...

    by: rf2fan Author IconMail Icon
Rather than talking about the topic at hand in front of her youngest daughter, Sharon decided to give Vanessa a chance to explain herself assuming that there was an reasonable explanation as to why her 18 year old daughter was wearing underwear designed for an unpotty trained toddler.

Sharon quietly snuck back away from her girls and went half way up the stairwell before calling out to Vanessa. "Hey Vanessa, sweetie? Could you please help me with folding the laundry? It will only take a moment and then you can keep playing with Chelsea".

Vanessa, being the responsible young adult that she was did not waste time in heading up the stairs to help her mother with the laundry.

As Vanessa climbed the stairs, she couldn't see where her mom had went so she called out to her. "Hey Mom? Where did you go?"

"In here, sweetie." Sharon replied from Chelsea and Vanessa's room.

Being a single mom meant that they could not always afford a whole lot and so for as long as Chelsea had been born, Vanessa was required to share a room with her baby sister.

As Vanessa entered her room, she found her mother neatly folding clothes on her bed. Even though the room was home to a 4 year old and a 18 year old, you'd easily be forgiven for assuming that two young children shared this room.

Whilst Chelsea still slept in a crib because she had a terrible habbit of wandering throughout the night, Vanessa slept in a child-sized single bed, never haven fully outgrown her old bed. Vanessa still had most of her old baby blankets and plushies spread around her bed and the walls were a light pink with many cartoon posters hung about. It wasn't that Vanessa favoured all of the childish things that surroundered her, it was just that Vanessa always tried to never ask for new things and would always make the most out of what she had. That and the fact that she loved her sister so much, she sacrified her side of the room to adorn more posters and cute things for her so she wouldn't get as scared at night time.

"Hey Mom? Don't hog all the washing!" Vanessa joked. "Save some for me, lol!"

"Come take a seat." Sharon said calmly as she patted the space next to her. "There's something i'd like to ask you. And I just want you to know I'm here to support you."

"Um, okay? Are you okay Mom? You seem oddly calm..."

"Vanessa, I'm not quiet sure how to ask this, so I'm just gonna say it... Sweetie..." Sharon paused. She wanted to ensure that she came of as caring and not judgemental in anyway. "Sweetie, can I ask... Why are you wearing one of Cheslea's diapers?"

How did Vanessa react?
