Thinking about it further, the interest in things inside your house starts to wane as you consider swapping somewhere else reliable like the zoo or a friend's house, but as you consider these more controlled options, you see a squirrel scurry up a tree outside. At first you don't think anything of it, but then you look at it again and wonder. Sure, it was definitely the opposite of the more controlled options you were currently considering, but you wondered. Would the right kind of swap make it so the squirrel would stay here? If so, could you just wander around free like a wild animal? Unlike the dog or a zoo animal, you were pretty sure this squirrel wouldn't have any owners that would keep an eye on you, though you still weren't familiar with what the life of a squirrel is like.
Still, though, it might be better to just stick to things you know for sure are going to be there to swap back with, though temptation starts to take hold. If not, then this does give you the idea that, while the dog and any people walking about were definitely out, you might find a good target just looking out the window - you did contemplate swapping objects, so giving the view of the outside world another look, you might find some better results with a different perspective - they had their own advantage of being just outside your house, after all.
