The moment Regina barged through his front door, Aliph knew that something was wrong. The very air felt tense. In fact, it seemed to shimmer with energy the likes of which he had never seen before.
"Regina, what's the matter?" he asked as she came running past him, sniffing.
He followed her, only for him to stop dead in his tracks when she slammed her bedroom door in his face. For some reason he felt that it would be very unwise to force his way in, as if Regina's foul mood was something he had to handle with great delicacy.
He could hear whimpering coming from the inside, followed by loud sniffing. Was she crying?
He knocked a few times, incredibly worried, and the answer he got was a stern, "Go away!" from Regina.
He did not, though, and he knocked again, this time adding, "Regina, you are worrying me profoundly. Tell me what is wrong."
"GO AWAY!"
Aliph took a step back in surprise. Her voice sounded demonic, which wasn't really a surprise, seeing that she was a demon, after all, but to drive her to such a state was the result of intense emotion, and not the shallow kind.
It was the type that hurt you deep down, that shook you to your very core.
This was indeed a very serious matter, so serious that not even Aliph, with his intellect, could handle. As much as it will hurt his pride, he knew that he will have to call up only one person who could handle this situation: his sister.
