Chapter #4

You Turn and Run Away From The Spirit

by: Sly F Author IconMail Icon
A scream for help catches in your throat. Still, that fight or flight instinct takes over and you turn and start running like your legs have a mind of their own.

You run as fast as you can, faster than you've ever run in your life. You force yourself to keep moving, even as your breathing becomes ragged and shallow. The whole time, you don't dare look behind you.

Meanwhile, Rin finds this all delightful. She's becoming more and more attracted to you and pursuing you with a different kind of passion than she's had for any of her victims before. The thrill of the hunt is getting her even more hot and bothered.

You stumble after your sprint, too exhausted to maintain your panicked speed. You lean against a sturdy tree, panting for breath, and look all around you for any sign of the ghostly apparition. You seem to be alone again.

Did you lose her? Was she just a figment of your imagination to begin with?

Or is she ready to materialize out of nowhere again and slash you to bits with her weapon, just like in the urban legend? You think it's safe to conclude she's not just a "legend" after all.

You don't have the energy left to resume a full-speed sprint, but you walk at the fastest pace you can manage. Soon you find yourself in a part of the woods that used to be part of the city before it was abandoned and retaken by nature. Brick walls are in various states of decay, from just small segments of individual walls, to mostly intact pairs of walls forming near corners, to largely still-standing two- or three-story structures just missing most of their fourth wall and sometimes roof.

Wooden pallets and debris are strewn all over the place, as are dim, blinking lampposts mysteriously still glowing. They seem to be connected to generators, but who has been maintaining them?

You don't remember seeing this on the way to your camping spot. Now you're not only being pursued by your worst nightmare, but you're helplessly lost.

You drag yourself in to the ruins, now just barely even able to walk slowly. Maybe you can find some place to take shelter and hide until daylight. Or at least until you can recover your stamina.

You hear the phasing sound again.

You quickly turn around and Rin is right there. Her pupil-less gaze is directed right at you, head still cocking from side to side. She's barely five feet away from you. So close you can smell her. She smells, strangely enough, not of death and decay but of sweat, incense, and cherry blossoms.

"Please, don't hurt me!" you whimper.

You back away a few steps and then find yourself backed up against a wall. You're caught right in the corner of two crumbling brick wall sections.

Rin licks her lips with a long, thick blue-tinted tongue. One dismembered hand rubs up and down the slender curve of her hip. The other runs across the bandages over her chest and gently tugs them down to show you some of her small but firm and round cleavage.
